Is it possible to use Irc in Dcu or will the proxy not allow it? If it is possible do you use "http://proxy.dcu.ie/proxy.pac" as the hostname? Basicially if it is possible how?

yes you can, try these:

proxy.dcu.ie
proxy1.dcu.ie
gnasher.dcu.ie

they worked for me back in the day

Sorry complete novice with irc, the proxies do I put them in the firewall tab or the local host tab?

Ok I'm going to have to do this in small steps.

Lets say that my user name and password is smithj2, 12345 respectively.
So i fill in the option as the picture?

don't use a username or password and set firewall support to both
