Archos AV560 - 450 euro in currys

Just got the 60GB version of the AV500 in Currys in Galway for 450 euro. Argos have the 30GB version for 500 euro I think.

They had 4 left.

The AV420 is €410 on Komplett, thats the one I have (not the AV400 as I said above)

For €23 more you could have the AV500 (30gb but no cradle as far as I can see. The cradles are a huge plus, maybe it does have one, I don't know)

But, for €485 you could have the AV700 (40gb). It apparently has "easy docking to TV and one-time set-up". Sounds like a nice piece of machinery!

You honestly need look no further than Archos, they're top-notch.

Note: The AV500 (30gb) is €433 on Komplett and €525 on expansys.

BUT

The AV420 (20gb) is €410 on Komplett and €385 on expansys (here - http://www.expansys.ie/product.asp?code=ARCHOS_AV400)

I would not recommend the AV700, it's too big, and the screen has the same resolution as the AV500, which means you'll see the pixels.

Best value currently is surprisingly from Dixon's... the Archos AV560 (60GB) for €450.
Its weird that you won't find the 60GB elsewhere. Its not even on the Archos website. I researched getting the 30GB and the 100GB in the US and to be honest the 60GB is best value as if anything goes wrong I can bring it back to the shop. I used to have an AV340 that I got in USA and the HDD failed. It took 3 months to get it back from the US!
Dixon's group must have signed some agreement with Archos I suppose. In the Gadget shop in Jervis they are selling the 30GB version for €499!
Do the math. 60GB for €450 is definitely cheap!

I got mine from Currys (theyre the same chain as Dixons), its one of those rare occasions that buying in the shop is better value than online! Plus you have the option of getting it insured (I took the 3yr option).

I just took the plunge and brought a 560 from currys at €450. Just need to figure out how to put dvd's onto the thing.

I was all set to get the AV500, but now it looks like Dixons do the AV560 with twice the hard drive for less than the AV500 on Amazon. What's the catch?

AFAIK Archos are moving their main centre to the UK, and out of France. THey obviously made a deal with the Dixons Group to do 560's exclusively.
They are fatter than the 500 (30GB) but at teh same money its a no brainer.
I did a width survey before I purchased a 560 in Dixons at xmas.
