http://www.rte.ie/news/2008/0528/rail.htmlBreakthrough at rail dispute talks
Wednesday, 28 May 2008 22:48
Iarnród Éireann management and unions have agreed settlement proposals that are to be put to the striking drivers in the morning.
It is hoped that if the proposals are accepted, trains on the affected routes may begin operating again as early as tomorrow afternoon.
Talks involving management and unions at Iarnród Éireann, aimed at ending the dispute that has halted Cork rail services, resumed in Mallow earlier this afternoon.
AdvertisementThe talks, which are chaired by the Labour Relations Commission, were adjourned early this morning after overnight negotiations.
Iarnród Éireann and unions did not meet face-to-face to discuss the issues in dispute. Instead facilitator Tom Pomphrett moved between the two sides with settlement proposals.
When the meeting ended there was confusion initially that the talks had broken down, but Iarnród Éireann's John Keenan insisted that the meetings would resume with the assistance of the LRC.
Mr Keenan accused the striking train drivers of pursing a 'narrow, selfish agenda' and said they had abandoned passengers on trains.
The NBRU and SIPTU accused management of not wanting to resolve the dispute which centres on a disagreement between the company and Cork-based train drivers over training.
The disruptions began when a Cork-based driver refused to work his roster last Thursday after being asked to facilitate the instruction of new trainee drivers.
Train services to and from Cork and Kerry have been disrupted for a seventh day due to the dispute.
Passengers intending to travel today should check Iarnród Éireann's website.

The 16:20 and 17:38 services from Docklands to Clonsilla are cancelled, today 29 May.
The 17:10 and 18:15 services are running per schedule.
The announcement as passengers arrived at Docklands this morning (I got 8:48 service from Coolmine, arrived 9:06) was that these cancellations were due to technical works. When I phoned Customer Service at Connolly they said that it was due to driver issues.
I will contact Irish Rail to ask that the cancellations be posted on their Travel Alerts page as I didn't see it there.0 -

http://www.luas.ie/page.php?name=Temporary_Closure_of_Connolly_and_Busarus_stopsTemporary Closure of Connolly and Busáras Stops
Your Questions Answered
When will Connolly and Busáras Luas stops temporarily close?
Connolly and Busáras Luas stops will be temporarily closed from Monday the 16th of June 2008.
Why will Connolly Luas Stop and Busáras Luas Stop will be closed?
Connolly and Busáras Luas stops will be temporarily closed between Monday the 16th of June and early Autumn this year to facilitate the construction of the extension of the Luas Red Line to The Point. This is the RPA Luas Docklands (Line C1) Project and construction is on-going. RPA has recently awarded the contract for the installation of the Luas track and related Luas infrastructure. These works will involve the installation of a new Luas Trackwork system at Amiens Street and Mayor Street. This junction will allow trams coming from Busáras to go to Connolly or to proceed directly towards The Point. It is necessary to close Connolly and Busáras Luas stops to complete these works.
When will Connolly and Busáras Luas stops be re-opened?
Connolly and Busáras Luas stops will be temporarily closed between Monday the 16th of June and early Autumn this year. More information on the exact date of the re-opening of the stops will be available in the coming weeks, as we get this information we will update our website to let you know.
How will I be affected?
- To get from the Luas Red Line temporary terminus at Abbey Street Stop to Connolly Station you can walk, this takes approximately 10 minutes.
- If you do not want to walk we suggest that you use Dublin Bus Services.
- If you are accessing DART services Tara St. Station is approximately 6 minutes walk from Abbey Street Stop and Connolly Station is approximately 10 minutes walk.
Apart from Busáras and Connolly will the Luas Red Line still be the same?
The temporary closure of Connolly and Busáras stops does not change how the rest of the line will operate. Operating times and frequency of trams will not change.
How do I get to Connolly Station?
A walking route taking approximately 10 minutes will be signposted from Abbey Street Stop to Connolly Station. Two walking routes taking approximately 10 minutes each will be signposted from Connolly Station to Abbey Street Stop.
Please download Walking Route Connolly Station – Abbey Street Stop
How do I get to Tara St Station?
If you are accessing DART services Tara St. Station is approximately 6 minutes walk from Abbey Street Stop. This route will not be signposted but you can download a map below.
Please download Walking Route Tara St. Station – Abbey Street Stop
How do I get to CrokePark?

Please download WalkingRouteCrokePark – Abbey Street Stop.
I want to get from Heuston to Connolly and I don’t want to walk from Abbey Street to Connolly.
As an alternative to walking from Abbey Street Stop to Connolly Station we suggest you use Dublin Bus services.
At the Luas Ticket Machine I can still buy a ticket to Busáras and Connolly?
When buying a ticket to Abbey Street, Busáras or Connolly stops you are buying a ticket to Central Zone 1 and the cost is the same. As this is a temporary closure and the price is the same the software on the Luas Ticket Machines has not been updated.
I have an Annual Luas Ticket / 30 Day Luas Ticket, am I entitled to a refund?
Your Annual Luas Ticket / 30 Day Luas Ticket is valid for travel from Zone to Zone. Travelling to Abbey Street Stop you will still be travelling to Central Zone 1; no refund will be provided.
I have an Irish Rail Ticket with City Centre Add On, how do I get to the City Centre?
Your Irish Rail Ticket with City Centre Add On is valid for travel to the City Centre with either Luas or Dublin Bus. You can use the Dublin Bus Feeder bus No. 90 for free with your ticket.
I forgot to TAG OFF my Luas SmartCard at Abbey Street, what happens?
When you forget to TAG OFF you are charged to the Zone at the end of the line. Normally the last stop would be Connolly, temporarily it will be Abbey Street however this will not affect the price you are charged as Connolly and Abbey Street stops are in the same Zone.

Luas Red Line services will terminate at Abbey St. from mid-June until early Autumn. This is to facilitate the on-going construction of the Luas Docklands Line. To allow better customer access the Abbey St. platform on the street side will be temporarily widened. Widening the platform will take about 2 weeks. Please use Abbey Street stop as normal.
Thank you for your co-operation.

RPA has recently awarded the contract for the installation of Luas Track and related Luas infrastructure. These works will involve the installation of a new Luas trackworks system at Amiens Street and Mayor Street. This junction will allow trams coming from Busaras to go to Connolly Stop or to proceed directly towards The Point.
Most of these works will be done between mid-June and early Autumn 2008. During this period it will be necessary to terminate the Luas Red Line trams at Abbey Street Stop. To facilitate the closure of Busarus and Connolly Stops and to allow better customer access to Abbey Street Stop platform; the street side will be temporarily widened.
These works will start on Tuesday 20th May 2008 and take about two weeks to complete. Ongoing services at Abbey St. Stop will not be affected by these works, please use Abbey Street stop as normal. RPA would like to thank you for your co-operation during these works.Amiens Street Delta Junction & Abbey Street Stop Enhancement
One of the major challenges for the project team will be the installation of a new three-way Luas Trackwork system at Amiens Street and Mayor Street. This junction will allow trams coming from Busaras to go to Connolly Stop or to proceed directly towards The Point. It is intended to install the bulk of the new track-work across Amiens Street from late June 2008 until the end of August 2008, as these are traditionally the periods when traffic volumes are lowest. RPA and the contractors are finalising discussions with the local authorities to agree the traffic management and diversion routes for this area during these works.
While these works are being carried out it will be necessary to terminate the Luas Red Line trams at Abbey Street Stop. This change is expected to take place from mid June. Works will be carried out in May 2008 and June 2008 at the Abbey Street Stop to increase the passenger capacity of Abbey Street Stop. RPA and Veolia are liaising with Dublin City Council, and affected stakeholders to minimise the disruption to customers.0 -

Dear Customer,
It is with sincere regret that we must inform you that the Circle Line service between Lucan-Celbridge and Nutgrove-VIA City Centre, will cease operating from Friday 27th June 2008.
This action is necessitated by the continued saturation of our route by a large number of Government funded buses, the operation of which is being subsidised by the tax payer.
We would like to thank you for your custom over the past number of years which we greatly appreciate.
It is a source of great sadness to us that we cannot continue to serve you, our customers and that our very loyal staff will lose their jobs. The continued financial losses on the route, make it impossible for us to continue operating the service.
Holders of Smart Cards will be refunded the remaining value on their cards by returning them to:
