WeatherWatch, all rail services operating: Docklands/Clonsilla trains will operate to/from Connolly by Corporate Communications

    WEATHER WATCH - UPDATE 8th January, 23.10hrs

Iarnród Éireann has advised customers that all rail services are continuing to operate around the network during the freezing conditions. Some minor delays may occur.

Rail personnel are manning strategically important locations on the network to ensure that snow is kept clear of points to ensure services operate.

In addition, to ensure the reliable operation of all Clonsilla and Maynooth services, all services to Docklands will now operate to Connolly, to the scheduled timetable (Monday to Friday). This is to ensure that points can be set to a single routing, avoiding risk of any faults.

Iarnród Éireann thanks customers for their cooperation with these arrangements.

    Latest service information

We will keep this webpage updated with the latest service information throughout the day. In addition, customers can follow us on twitter.com/irishrail for the latest updates.

Customers diverting to Iarnród Éireann from bus services can get the latest bus information from Bus Éireann or Dublin Bus websites.

WeatherWatch, all rail services operating: Docklands/Clonsilla trains will operate to/from Connolly by Corporate Communications

WEATHER WATCH - UPDATE Saturday 9th January, 16.00hrs

Iarnród Éireann has advised customers that all rail services are continuing to operate around the network during the freezing conditions. Some minor delays may occur.

Iarnród Éireann thanks customers for their cooperation with these arrangements.

    Latest service information

We will keep this webpage updated with the latest service information throughout the day. In addition, customers can follow us on twitter.com/irishrail for the latest updates.

    http://www.garda.ie/Default.aspx
    1) Ensure windscreen, all windows and rear view mirrors are fully demisted and clear before commencing journey.

    (2) Ensure tyre pressure is correct and condition of vehicle including lights and steering are in full working order.

    (3) Listen to regular weather reports and up to the hour AA Road Watch reports.

    http://www.garda.ie/Controller.aspx?Page=4856
    (4) Plan journeys (allow extra time) and if necessary delay to mid-morning where thawing has occurred.

    (5) Ensure you have adequate supply of fuel in tank.

    (6) During daytime hours drive on dipped headlights.

    (7) Reduce your speed and drive to the prevailing road, weather and traffic conditions. In severe conditions adjust your driving to the constantly changing condition.

    (8) Always drive within your own – and your vehicle’s – limits and do not allow yourself to be influenced or intimidated by the behaviour of other road users.

    (9) In low traction conditions stay in the highest gear possible to minimise wheel spin. Consider moving off in second gear releasing the clutch and accelerating gently.

    (10) In freezing conditions make an effort to drive more smoothly then ever. Clutch control, use of the accelerator, and steering movements should always be carried out in a smooth and gentle manner.

    (11) Ensure you keep an extended and safe distance from vehicle ahead (this distance should be extended further in sever weather conditions.)

    (12) Take extra care driving on shaded roads or untreated surfaces. Where possible, drive on a section of roadway or lane which has already been used by other traffic. Try to avoid driving on areas of roadway covered by impacted or frozen snow or slush.

    (13) Always drive defensively with consideration for other road users.

    (14) Make extra allowance for pedestrians and pedal cyclists.

    (15) If stranded or immobilised the use of hazard warning lights will alert other motorists.

    (16) Motorcyclists and pedal cyclists should where possible avoid making any journeys in icy or slippery conditions

    (17) Be aware that after snow or frost has gone, ice can remain in areas shaded by trees and buildings. Also take care when crossing shady sections of road that your vehicles grip may be significantly reduced especially on bends.

    (18) Read your vehicles owners manual for information which is specific to your vehicle.

    (19) If a vehicle begins to skid the driver should remain calm.
    • If the front wheels of your vehicle begin to skid, the driver should take his/her foot off the accelerator - Consideration should be given to disengaging the clutch and apply smooth steering. When the tyres regain their grip steer the vehicle back on your desired course.
    • If the vehicle goes in to a rear wheel skid the rear will swing either to the left or the right. If un-corrected this can develop into a spin. To control this skid remove the foot from the accelerator, consider disengaging the clutch and steer into the direction of the skid. (if the rear of the vehicle is swinging out to the drivers right / steer right and if swinging to the left steer left). This ensures that the front wheels continue to point in the intended direction of travel. The amount of steering used to correct the skid should be in proportion to the amount of rear movement taking place.
    • Care should to be taken not to Over Correction as this may induce a further skid.

In severe or adverse weather conditions all road users should where possible should avoid any unnecessary journeys.

    (20) Pedestrians, pedal cyclists other vulnerable road users to continue to wear high visibility clothing and markings at all times. The wearing of helmets by pedal cyclists is highly recommended.

    (21) The rules in relation to "yellow-box" junctions must be observed.
    * When driving conditions are made more difficult by adverse weather the blocking of these junctions can cause a hazard as well as inconvience.

WeatherWatch, all rail services operating: minor revisions to Galway & Waterford Intercity schedule by Corporate Communications

WEATHER WATCH - UPDATE Sunday 10th January, 15.30hrs

Iarnród Éireann has advised customers that all rail routes are continuing to operate around the network during the freezing conditions.

MINOR SERVICE REVISIONS FROM MONDAY 11TH JANUARY

As a precautionary measure to ensure service reliability, Iarnród Éireann is temporarily ceasing the practice of "splitting and joining" trains during the day, as extreme cold conditions outside of the depot environment can expose the control and mechanical systems of train couplers to faults.

To facilitate this, the following service revisions will apply from Monday 11th January until the current cold spell passes:

07.10hrs Waterford to Heuston & 07.40hrs Waterford to Heuston will be amalgamated with capacities of both trains combined, and operate to the 07.40hrs Waterford to Heuston schedule throughout. All other services on this route will operate to the normal schedule.

11.05hrs Galway to Heuston cancelled. All other services on the route will operate to the normal schedule.

All other routes on the network will continue to operate to a normal schedule.

Iarnród Éireann thanks customers for their cooperation with these arrangements.

    Latest service information

We will keep this webpage updated with the latest service information throughout the day. In addition, customers can follow us on twitter.com/irishrail for the latest updates.

Sun 10th January: 13.45hrs Tralee to Heuston delayed approx 60 minutes, points being cleared following heavy snowfall

Customers diverting to Iarnród Éireann from bus services can get the latest bus information from Bus Éireann or Dublin Bus websites.

Dublin Airport is open and operating normally today (Sunday, 10th January).

Due to ongoing poor weather conditions throughout Europe, passengers are advised to consult airline websites or their airline directly BEFORE travelling to the airport.
