    Hi,
    Anyone own a Mazda MX5 (1.6) or a Jap import Roadster?
    A Mate of mine is looking to buy one but not too sure about if they are any good. Know of anywhere you could buy one?

    thanks,
    Jim

    Hey there,

    did you ge a car off them?
    are they any good to deal with?

    Yes, bought my MX5 off them earlier this year.

    Small operation, and very approachable and easy to deal with.

    I drove one of these cars for 5 years from 98 to 03. Good cars but be careful regarding earlier models as they may have 'been around the block' at this stage.

    Im looking at a 1992 Eunos Roadster.
    Grade is 3.5

    What do you think, would it be a bit ropey??

    I've had one for nearly 7 years. Obviously I rate them. I know of MANY cars well over the 250k miles mark. The engines are v.robust as they originated from the 323 GT turbo. The imports have A/C, electric windows and speakers in the headrests + other bits. Parts are v.easy to come by and 99.9% of them are the same as the "Irish" cars. They are mostly galvanised so no rust worries, lots of fun & handling is pretty unreal. 4 wheel disk brakes, 50/50 weight distribution, the roof folds back, very little goes wrong with them.

    Check out the FAQ section on www.mx5ireland.com (although I think whoever wrote it is a little over enthusiastic :D;) )

    P.S. If you are looking for an insurance quote on one, give me a shout ;-)

    Nah, give it a test drive, just look out for the usual things (tyres, holes in exhaust, dents in chassis rails, etc etc). Prob 3.5 due to marks on paint...

    I might - quote me happy:D
    * MX-5 1.8i
    * Berkeley Ltd Edition no.259/400
    * 1998 (amongst last mk1-types to leave factory before non-pop-up facelift)
    * UK first reg'd, not Jap imported
    * 45.700 genuine & verifiable miles (all MOTs since birth & FMDSH, all services at intervals and some more, service book with MOT-concording miles)
    * Dublin based on Dublin plate, on car port under tarp most of the year
    * factory-fitted immob, standard car throughout
    * for 2,000 miles a year max-max-maximum (about 100 miles in last 2 months :( )

    I probably shouldn't say this to an insurer, but it's nothing you can't find in here with a bit of browsing: it's the only one in Ireland, AFAIK. Rosslare had to come up with a code for it when I did the IE registration thing ;) - so quote for replacement (for we love her, we really, really do - have done for the past 5 years), don't quote for value.

    Thanks 4 the pm, replied - I take it he's still on yellows (from the MOT cert on w/screen), or is he NI-based?

    Oh - and please, pretty please - can you ask your mate if he's ever found a place to buy/source a rubber insert for one of the chrome pieces of the flush boot rack? I lost one years ago (at 130mph+, racing a Dutch Elise :o - but noone on Boards believes any MX-5 can "Elise-bash"... phillistines :D ) and I have never once found anywhere to get the part from, short of buying the whole f*cking rack again from a dealer :( (and I did leave markers with just about every mx-5 specialist, breaker, importer etc. in the UK - never a call or email :( ).

    Will defohave to get me into one o' these rallies :)

    Have you tried emailing http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/ with your query? Or www.sftmx5parts.co.uk? They might be able to put you in touch with the manufacturers?

    BTW, should be a run or tech day fairly soon, keep an eye on the mailing list up on http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/mx5ireland/
