Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi all,

I am trying to set up my wireless router to 'repeat' or 'extend' the signal of an eircom hotspot. The situation is that I can pick up the hotspot signal from my living room at the front of my house, but not from the back of my house where my computer is. I can't move the computer to where the signal is, and I don't want to run any cables around my house. The computer has a wireless NIC and I also have a wireless router. I am hoping that I can set up the router in the living room where the eircom hotspot can be detected, and the connect my computer to the hotspot via the router. Does anyone know if this is possible? I assumed it would be easy enough - like connecting an uplink in a wired ethernet - but it thusfar I haven't had much success. I suppose my router my not be capable of doing this; if anyone knows of one that is, let me know! My current router is this:

    Thanks very much,

Yes you can as your access point supports WDS, however the Eircom unit would also have to support it, plus you would need access passwords to config it also :-)

Thanks for that - I figured the solution might be something to do with WDS alright - I messed around with these settings a bit but got nowhere. I'll see if a bit of RTFM gets me any further :) Has anyone ever done this successfully with an (eircom) hotspot? I wonder if they do anything to prevent this? (or is this even possible)

Why would they bother? The service is for anyone within a 50 metre (I think) range whose prepared to pay. You qualify range-wise, and it sounds like you don't mind giving Eircon your money - can't guarantee you'll be happy, but I'm sure they will. :p
