    Not sure why poeple use the testmy.net. It's hosted in the states and seems to give really bad results (assume it's over used?). Just ran it followed by irishisptest and got:

    Connection is:: 885 Kbps about 0.9 Mbps (tested with 1013 kB)
    Download Speed is:: 108 kB/s
    Tested From:: http://testmy.net/ (server2)

    And 5.69Mb/s on irishisptest.

    ADSL Guide always gives better results than irishisptest for me when running from home over my IBB connection but I cant run it from work as the proxy seems to stuff things up.

    Most people will run www.testmy.net as well as running www.irishisptest.com to verify each others results. There does be only a few kbps in the difference Better than the difference between advertised 1mb and 100 kbps results and with testmy you are able to keep track with your tests over the months for when you go to comreg. It is also easier to copy and paste instead of capturing the image file.

    Still, people wouldnt be using these things if they didnt think they had a problem.

    Arcane - I spoke to Comreg during the week about IBB who told me that there was effectively nothing they can do. It appears that the broadband industry here in Ireland is not regulated.

    They advised me to contact the Office of Consumer Affairs which I have done and who have been very helpful.

    If people have accounts as private consumers as opposed to a business, contact the Office of Consumer Affairs.

    speeds still look sh1t no matter what you use! the lads are trying to get this point across !

    1mb on 3mb line is crap! dire and waste of ping time and bandwidth, no matter what ISP you use

    No they dont! And that's my whole point. 885kbs looks nothing like 5.9Mb/s which is what I got with the two! On my IBB connection I get near the full connection speed on ADSL guide but less than half of it in testmy.net so the speeds do not look sh*t not matter what you use...

    I'm not denying IBB have their issues - and I have been hit by them myself off and on. But you cannot expect the company to take complaints seriously when in fact you are (in my case) getting near your full speed when this tool claims you are not.

    Seriously dude, you are a little excitable and with some of the extreme statements made on this forum, its little wonder that IBB have dismissed complaints posted here as crazy..

    There is no doubting that IBB have a a huge number of problems however.

    but they are still sh1te, there is not doubt, 90% of Boardsters are not FREAKS

    90% is a made up figure. In general, satisfied customers do not post up about their experiences. Thus, all you hear is negative reports of IBB's service. Now, the fact that when compared to the number of complaints about other ISPs, there is no doubting problems do exist.

    Regardless of how valid your claims are, no one in IBB or even the press are going to pay much attention to outlandish and dismissive statements along the lines of:

    "but they are still sh1te, there is not doubt, 90% of Boardsters are not FREAKS"

    "speeds still look sh1t no matter what you use! the lads are trying to get this point across !

    :D so why do you you bother?

    ohh yeah to add to the list thier customer service is SH1t too!!

    NTL, SMARt and Eircom makes IBB look like a buch of amatuers!

    And the press are addressing the rip off nature of BB in Ireland ...... FACT

    i never had a bad word to say about ibb for the first 3 months, but since they upgraded the lines the quality of my connection has steadily declined. on a supposed 2mb connection i get speeds that are not worthy of a 512k connection. not forgetting at least one outage a week, anything from 3 hours to a day. i'm pretty sure we had to sign a 12 month contract with ibb, whats the deal with canceling before the year is up? the reason being that their service isn't what they claim it to be.

    my connection is so **** that it took me 15 minutes to post the above

    My connection is grand again. Still, i'll be jumping ship soonish i think. I can't be bothered with an unreliable connection. Its not the hassle and pain i go through every time it fúcks up for a few months. I'm gone back down to a mere 2-3% packetloss, which is MUCH better than before.

    Bring on Smart or NTL. They seem much more reliable than any wireless provider.

    I have the same problem with RIPWAVE it was good but never great. Now for the last 2 and a half weeks it is really SLOW. Irish Broadband advertises it as 512k download, I am lucky to get 20k at the moment. It is so bad I won't use it for credit card purchases as the as the connection can time out during processing. I emailed IBB support for 10 days never got a responce, I finally got through to support on the phone last week and like above they said "we are experiencing problems in that area and we are working on it"

    If others out there are thinking of getting BB - I wouldn't recommend 'Ripwave'
