    Smarts are offering for the xmas period is a 6Mb down 512K up connection for all its customers.

    *Depending on your eircom line quality and distance from the exchange of course.

    I can't see Smart actually turning these upgrades off considering what digiweb are offering and what Eircom are about to offer from the 1st January.

    As of the moment, it's just a Christmas present (read: way for them to test peoples lines capabilities)... it's supposed to return to "normal" in the middle of January. I'd say it's possible that they'll downgrade to > 2/128 though. Since Eircom will be 2/256 & 3/384 they'll probably look for a happy medium that they can give to most people.

    It's not like the economic cost to the telco is THAT much greater for a faster line. As long as they have the ADSL2+/ADSL equipment in place that's all that really matters.

    The backhaul and interconnection prices are relatively low and I can't imagine that smart's network's overloaded given the low broadband uptake in Ireland so far. They must have plenty of capacity.

    It's all just marketing!
