Well I live witha guy called Eanna and sometimes people think he is a girl too. Hard luck man. :)

My Grandad was Eanna or Enda & my little brother has it as a middle name.

I hate when irish people call their children Cailin - girl! What a silly name. I don't mind foreign people using it, but irish people!

I love Caoilfhionn, Aoibhe, Aoife, Siofra, Tadhg, Oisin.

I like my name now - hated it as a kid.. Still have to spell it at least 20 times a day & explain its origin over & over again.. Ah well, at leasts its pretty unique!

My name is Lara and my brothers name is Forrest.... my sisters name is Kateri (yes were all fully Irish)..then my mam decided to call my other brother Gavin (hahaha) he got the crap name. :o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166,026 ✭✭✭✭LegacyUser

Oh yeah, Gavin, he got the crap name, the rest of you guys got 'real' lucky!
    :D

Sorry, just kidding, my brothers name is Gavin so I am being defensive.

My sisters name is geraldine, she hates it, I am not too fond of it either.
My mam said recently that she doesn't know what she was thinking when she picked that name, and wishes she had gone with 'Niamh' instead.

My little, little sister, Saoirse, goes to an Irish school, and there is a girl called 'stone' in her class. That really is how she spells it, STONE. She has two sisters called Robin and Blue.
    Thats a bit mental.

My cousin had twin girls, and his girlfriend insited on calling them 'Charlie and Chelsie', I kid you not.
My aunt was devastated, but if she had got her way, they would be called Soreena and Savanah.

You probabaly think I am bull****ting, I wish I was.

Hey Tinka, I have a CAT called Tinka.......

    *this is getting weird!*

i agree... maybe it has something to with australia being "down under" so to speak. being on the opposite side of the world may have shifted the balance of the space-time continuum causing all the cats you know to have the names of people i know and vice versa. some uncanny twist of fate perhaps.

but there is always the chance that it is a coincidence...

  • met a girl in france called fanny..could hardly keep a stragiht face

There are a LOT of girls in France called Fanny. There's one in all my classes at college and I can't bring myself to say her name when I say hi to her :D

Eanna. I'm not a particular fan of it. A lot of people have problems pronouncing it, and other people assume I'm a girl when they hear it, because of that woman on RTE 1 called Eanna Ni Lamhna. I'm not a girl!

There are some unusual names in my family.

I have cousins called Kirsten, Eavanna, Ailbhe, Bronwyn, Tiernan (girl), Fiachra (girl), Alexis (bloke), Sasha (girl), Persephone (girl), Kaijah (girl) Keir (Girl, NOT Keira).

I am having difficulty choosing a name for my baby, who is due in 7 weeks. For a girl, I have about 4 names, for a boy 3, but I can't decide on one of each conclusively. I ain't gonna share those names with ye however - tis mine and my partners decision.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55 ✭✭*WKD*

Other rough names are Mildred and Concepta, sorry if that is your name:o .

<My dad is Tim and hes not a cat either:p .

I like Rebecca, Sorcha, Caitlin and Shannon for girls (sorry for poor unfortunate boys called Shannon), Charlie or Kevin for boys.

So then it's sorted Dave and Steve are the best names for a boy.. I think that its a fairly valid point. Not that I'd ever call my kid Dave or Steve.. :D

    Sean for #1! :v:

Have enjoyed reading through this thread as am stuck for boys name at the moment... (will need one in a few weeks if baby no 3 turns out to be a boy!)

My own personal choice of Alex has been marked out by the OH as a definite NO and I've ruled out Matthew (as I used to know a Matthew who wouldnt be a great advert for the name :D !!)

Jason and Andrew are 2 other potentials.

    Have a girls name sorted!

As for names I hate, only one I really dislike is Kyle and am not very fond of Callum or Connor either!!

For a girl I love the names Helena, Linda, Diana, Felicia, Muriel, Alexis and Jasmin.
And for a boy Adrian, Raphael, Phineas, Damian, Tristan and Nicolas.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,682 ✭✭✭deisemum

And for a boy Adrian, Raphael, Phineas, Damian, Tristan and Nicolas.

One of my friends has 5 children including Phineas and Tristan

I've an Adam (from before it became popular and I didn't know any other Adam at the time) and a Nicholas

I've a french/greek name and I hated the teachers always trying to make up an irish version for it.

    I dislike most Irish names

What I really dislike is people naming their children after themselves. I think that's the height of arrogance.

Christ, I'm in England and I'd still be able strike off 17/18 of those names, by people at work alone. That's the point though I suppose.

    and
i've always liked Petra for a girl
    Dylan, 90210?
    Petra, porn?

I think Ailish has to be the most painfully bad name suggested as a good name here. When I try to think of it being said out loud, all I get is Ian Paisley saying "Ailish shez no!". Most of xzanti's 'good' names are a bit iffy too, and The Dazzler - are you just flicking between E4 and MTV on the telly while reading boards?

"Phwooaaaar, Mischa, now there's a GREAT name..."

... Gobnait, LOL. I'd have to feel sorry for anyone called Persephone or Devogue.

What about Nuala, Daffodil, Geranium, Lurleen for a girl and Dwayne, John-Paul, Benedict and Jahosephat for a boy. (They'd be amongst my worst - I'm not telling which ones I like most). :v:
