Not necessarily who you think is the best player of all time but who is your personal favourite?

I have liked many players throughout the years and I usually tend to like the real characters of the game like Bobby George, Jocky Wilson and Wayne Mardle. I think they add alot to the game of darts as they get the crowd really involved in the game. I also like Tony David purely because he upset all the odds to win the BDO World Title, when nobody gave him a hope, and despite the fact that he is a heamophiliac (sp?). I have also love Andy Fordham since I started watching darts because I actually thought he was a viking :D very likeable guy as well. Never really liked Taylor too much purely because he wins everything and I tend to like the guys who are underdogs.

If I was forced to choose a favourite player of mine I would probably choose John Part. I really like watching him play and the devotion he has to the sport. He is the only guy who seems to put it up to Taylor. At this moment in time he would be the man I like the best. I tend to change my mind alot though :D

Grew up watching darts in the early 80s when Bristow was King of the Castle. I hated him, and loved Jocky and Lowe. Jocky is definitely the darts equivalent of Alex Higgins and George Best. A flawed genius - how the darts went where he wanted them to go, given his action and instability when throwing, was miraculous! He had his good and bad days, he did two exhibitions in my area years ago - once everyone came out saying he was an absolute ballix, the other everyone came out lovin him. I'm not sure why but now he has fallen out with darts and hates everyone to do with it. I believe he feels darts and the people involved in darts have let him down. He lives in a run down council house in Scotland - he refuses to do any media interviews, never collects any "legend of darts" type awards that he occassionally wins and doesnt do any exhibitions, out of which he'd still be able to command a good living - apparently he believes people are only out to take advantage of him and he wants to be left alone and he's almost impossible to contact.

Of the current crop I still prefer the oldies (if that makes sense), I was delighted that Dave Whitcombe qualified for PDC WC this year. I really look forward to seeing him on TV again, though its a pity he got such a hard draw (Scholten). I actually much prefer Bristow now to Lowe. Bristow is another flawed genius, but a great character, and I find him very funny on TV. I got a bit of a sickener with Lowe when he was interviewed during the UK Open in Blackpool - he kept on going on about how he shouldnt even be there, that he'd make more money if he was doing an exhibition, and was incessantly blowing his own trumpet. Not any more arrogant than Bristow, but Bristow has the character to carry it off. (Actually I'm just reminded of an interview Bobby George did once. He was asked whether it was true that he had a personality clash with John Lowe. He said it wasnt true, but that maybe it would be if Lowe had a personality for mine to clash with!)

I don't like Phil Taylor. My current favs of the top players on the PDC tour are Manley and Mardle, albeit they frustrate me when they invariably play below par whenever the face The Power.

Favourite on the BDO tour would be Darryl Fitton.

Andy Fordham - 'cos he's just this great guy, y'know?

John Lowe has always been my favourite.

I like Andy Fordham, especially after watching his 'Fat Friends' documentary ...he's a good guy full stop.

Met Taylor once, not impressed by his demeanour to others at all.

^ Did'nt think Taylor was like that, I met him aswell (although it was at a tournament) but he signed every single autograph with a smile and a chat.

There's good characters in the game now Mardell, The Count but you just can't beat good old Jocky Wilson.....a fine athelete!

And I have changed my mind :D

Priestley would be my current favourite. He may not be the huge entertainer like others and some people dont like watching him because he is so slow but you have to appreciate what the man has done. If it wasnt for Phil Taylor then Priestley would have beem World Champion about 5 times instead of twice. He was finished in 1999 when his eyes went but his family persuaded him to get Laser eye surgery done, to pick up his darts and start practicing again. He forced himself back up the rankings and finished was World number 3 last year. He is World number 5 at the moment, sits second in the Premier League and won the last PDC tournament played at the weekend. Not bad for a 56 year old. He is a very nice guy and will give anyone a game.
