Hi I have a Panasonic DVD S 295 and for audio it has an L and R output,
and a digital co-ax. It doesn´t output 5.1 audio but if i attach an Amp that
does support 5.1 through the digital co-ax will the AMP split the signal to the
    5 speakers and the sub-woofer ?

It has a DTS symbol on it too if that helps.

Sorry to be a nit picker but this is not really my area ,
will it be true 5.1 surround ? or will it just split the signal evenly
    6 ways ?

(ie will sounds that are supossed to happen at back left happen
at back left, bass -> SubWoofer etc .)

All digital audio outputs will send the signal as it was recorded, so if you have a 5.1 amp it will give you 5.1 sound.

Just to clarify what ffocused said, the signal sent out of the coax digital out is a single stream of all 6 audio chanels. This stream is decoded by your amp (if it has a DD/DTS decoder on board) into the 6 independant channels and then routed to the individual corresponding speakers.

What the DTS sticker basically means is that your DVD player does not have a DD/DTS decoder on it but it does support the output of the Digital audio stream out through the coax digital output on the back of the player.

    L.
