Okay lads danyoson from boards picked up my trusty old 156 last Sunday and im now car less! ive been looking for weeks but im having trouble finding something new that meets my criteria:

    Must be quickish (150bhp +)
    But still insurable
    Post 2000 preferable
    Leather interior is preferable
    Nothing over 55,000 miles
Pref not silver but if its really nice i might go for it
Max budget 15k hopefully a little less

Ive been looking at Alfa Gtvs, Golf 1.8t (and then getting a remap to 200bhp+), toyotal celicas (new shape) but cant really find anything i like

    Anyone want to help :D

Theres a nice magnum grey golf gti with black recaros in galway (bit far away tho) and a nice silver leon 1.8t (02 so its a std looking leon no cupra kit) in limerick but something a little closer would be good!

How about an MX5? They may not have 150bhp, but I doubt that you'll miss the power.

No, a Nissan 200SX is what you need.

I think he said 15k was hid busget for the car, not a weeks petrol allowance :D

:D - well it has nearly 3 times his minimum power figure, and one extra litre, and an extra turbo than a 200sx - Thought it might be ok for him...:)
    Oh, wait, he said insurable.

    ahh that vrs is rotten!
    a)its a skoda
    b)its ugly
    &
    c)look at the interior ffs!

what you really should look for is a spotless Honda prelude 2.2 vti , post 2000 with leather 190bhp+ and 4 seats - should be well within budget

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,571 ✭✭✭Mailman

15K will buy you a very clean 156 2.0 JTS with 165BHP and loads of extras.
For that sort money you'll get a very fresh Alfa and after that if it gives trouble it will be you're fault for abusing it rather than inheriting other peoples abuse.
2 litre 156 is very insurance friendly.

ive seen that one and went to have a look, dont want to pay more than 14 for it tho as ill only be keeping for a year or so and itll be a big hit on depreciation!

SEAT Leon 1.9 TDi? That's what id chose over the equivalent golf, though at 110bhp it may be a little too slow for ye and would probably want a re-map.

So now you're looking for a car from Coombe Cars. Is it this?

    coombecarsIntWhi888.jpg

If it is, it is way overpriced for my liking, but I know I am wrong when it comes to the second hand value of older Jap cars in Ireland :)

    Cyrus,

I'd advise you to buy my car :)

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2054854040

We talked about it before. I'm back from the US and probably going to sell it this weekend (2 seriously interested parties in the price range). It hits all your bullet points except it's silver and no leather, but fast and furious, 42K miles, 2000 and its a 6 cylinder BMW (323i) which is a whole lot of car.

    Anyway, just a reminder.

Go on Cyrus, spare yourself Golf mediocrity and go for a real car :D

Best of luck with it Cyrus, how much did it cost you in the end?

Also post a couple of photos when you get a chance.

Road tax on a 2.5 liter car is €821, so just over €300 more than the 1.8 Golf. This difference is negligible compared to the depreciation on either car though...
