What kinda stuff do you like? Someone says to me that they reckoned a typical ucd student would be into s h i t like 5/mariah carey. I wanna prove them wrong.

Im stuck in the whole singer / songwriter genre.
damien rice/paul tiernan/declan o roure/ fiach/jeff buckley/david kitt. Im into bands like the frames / the doors / alice in chains too.

Very catholic taste in music here; I listen to a lot of the old rock classics and bands such as the Rolling Stones, Santana etc.

I am also a fan of REAL country music... not the sh1te that has mothers, sick/crippled boys and trucks... Steve Earle is a class artist, as is Springsteen.

Quite fond of 50's and 60's 'cool' jazz sound, Davis, Mingus etc.

Still love old punk classics as I'm a child of that era...

Beethoven is cool, so is Dvorak... my list is endless.

I hate pop songs and regurgitated and manufactured boy and girl bands.

Eh... Humbert was the name of the Professor/Scholar in Vladimir Nabokov's book Lolita, so I assume it may be in reference to that, although I could be wrong...

Oh, also, you're headin for a ban, mate.:p

I'm into all sorts of stuff... I'll name a few bands/artists that I like though:

Damien Rice, Paddy Casey, Iron Maiden, Matchbox 20, Phil Coulter (\m/), the Beatles, the Doors, Led Zeppelin, Guns n Roses, Muse, Radiohead, Frank Sinatra, Eva Cassidy, Paul Simon, Oasis, Pantera, Pearl Jam, the Pixies, Pink Floyd, Stevie Wonder, the Dubliners, Beethoven, Mozart, Wilco, Elvis, Elton John, the Eagles, Dire Straits, Bob Dylan, Bon Jovi, Bob Marley, 2pac, Eminem

After the first few I decided to go through my mp3 folder and get a few ideas, lol :p

So yeah, *fairly* elliptical tastes! I'm not really one to go out buying all the albums of a specific band or anything, I'd be more inclined to download a million songs (I'm scum I know!), so I listen to lots of different bands, but not necessarily every day or anything.

    \m/

    hmmm....loads of stuff.

Bruce Springsteen, Queen, AC/DC, ELO, SOAD, RHCP, The Eagles, Athlete, Architecture in Helsinki, Jeff Buckley, Smashing Pumpkins, Tool, A Perfect Circle..(mmm Maynard), Blur, Gorillaz, Basement Jaxx, Billy Joel, Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder....the list goes on.

I'll listen to pretty much anything except rap/pop.

Overall i'm quite easy to please, rock, house, funk, old skool, jazz, swing/rock-n-roll, classical, disco and 80's would be quite up my street:

At the moment here's some of my playlist: Dire Straits, Led Zepellin, U2, ACDC, Paul Oakenfold, Chemical Brothers, Underworld, Mike Oldfield, MCR, Pink Floyd, Wishbone Ash, Soulwax, Bob Dylan, The Band, Eric Clapton, Jools Holland, Cream, 2 Many DJ's, Turn... i could go on.

only things i'd really say no to are any of these reality tv show 'bands', and R'n'B in general, with some very rare exceptions.

The fact that the boss was mentioned made me smile. I've got loads of his stuff =0)
Loads of bands I would listen to have been mentioned above, but in terms of what I'd be really mad about:
The Boss, Zeppelin, Jeff Buckley, Neil Young, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Audioslave, Tool, A Perfect Circle, (I can't believe sombody already mentioned)Billy Joel, Iron Maiden, AC/DC, *Rory Gallagher*, Therapy?, System of a Down, Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix.... loads of other really obvious stuff you could probably guess from that list....
In terms of pop music, I really like The Police and Sting's solo stuff. Nothing else in pop immediately springs to mind.
Classical.... the usual obvious stuff, but I really love Fritz Chryslers violin stuff - it's truly astounding.

    em
Miles Davis, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, some Nat King Cole. Louis Armstrong.
Dillinger Escape Plan, Death, Slayer, oh and Primus
Thin Lizzy. Dire Straights. The Clash.
Nothing else immediately springs to mind.

Mostly rock and metal for me :)
I'm particularly into power and melodic metal... I love Sonata Arctica, Blind Guardian, Hammerfall, Nightwish, Lacuna Coil, Stratovarius... and outside of that, I like System of a Down, Tool, A Perfect Circle, Metallica, Mastodon, Slipknot, Tristania, Apocalyptica, Nine Inch Nails, Rammstein and others.
Outside of rock and metal, I like ambient dance, J-rock and video game music. A strange combination...

I'm into stuff like Coheed & Cambria, Every Time I Die, Underoath, Thrice, LCD Soundsystem, Daft Punk, Clor, The Chalets, Republic of Loose, Turn, Alkaline Trio, Simon & Garfunkel, Michael Jackson, My Chemical Romance, Johnny Cash, Biffy Clyro, !Forward Russia!, Hell Is For Heroes, Papercuts, Fall Out Boy, The Mars Volta, At The Drive-In, Converge, Fugazi, Cave-In...and a lot of other bands that I can't think of at the moment.

Basically, I like hardcore and post-hardcore punk, and some other things that I've randomly plucked from other genres :)

Oh yeah and any and all Final Fantasy music...

I listen to metal :P , Bands like Cage, Megadeth, Metallica, AC/DC, Ensiferum Dimmu Borgir, Children of bodom, Manowar , Rhapsody,Pantera, And some cheese metal aswell :P

Very eclectical musical taste- anything from Sigur Rós to Pink Floyd to Aphex Twin. Only genres I dont listen to really are pop, the kind of dance boy racers love and country. After that I have favourites from all across music. Tom Waits, Dream Theatre, Sigur Rós, Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Bob Dylan are taking up the majority of my music listening time at the minute.

    I enjoy lots of music!
Radiohead would be my favourite band. Then stuff like Sigur Rós, Dream Theater, Pink Floyd, Tool, The Smiths, Rush, Zep, Mars Volta, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, A Silver Mount Zion, Explosions in the Sky, Opeth, System of a Down, A Perfect Circle, The Pixies, Queens of the Stone Age (and Kyuss, naturally), Velvet Underground, Type O Negative, Mars Volta, At the Drive-In, Johnny Cash, a bit of NIN, Dead Kennedys, Apocalyptica, Black Sabbath, Arcade Fire.
I need more Neil Young stuff and I like jazz, but I definitely need to get more of it.

I'm pretty much the same. I'd just rather type down ALL MUSIC to save my fingers the energy of typing all the music I like.

Anything that doesn't reek of money...(please sit down eminem)
Kinda changes all the time. At the moment it's Alva Noto and Frank Bretschneider but since most people are afraid of music that doesn't have a chorus I have to mention something more standard.

For guitar-legendry I select: Zepplin, Television, Hendrix
    Turntablism: DJ Shawdow, Cut Chemist
    Electronica: Autechre, Aphex-twin, Farben
Counry: The Handsome Family, El Diablo, Johnny Cash
Classical: Prokofiev, a bit of Ludwig van hits the spot as well
Jazz: Charles Mingus, Keith Jarret, Miles Davis
Irish Bands: Redneck Manifesto, Republic of Loose, Clann Zu

Loads more, but I'm spending too long on this..

Ha, you like fiach. You must know him personally.

From sitting in the library browsing through other peoples iTunes music I can say that there are a lot of alt/indie/singer songwriter followers. And new bands spread around here like the plague. Lots of jack johnson, damien rice, james blunt, KT tunstall etc

i'm not into bands or artists so much (with a few exceptions). i'm more into individual songs, sticking to certain bands, genres etc is stupid, it limits you horribly.

yea I too like individual songs rather than bands but can understand why people follow bands, it's the same as buying another book by the same author, from what they've done previously you feel they're good and know what to expect...
