ComReg wastes more of our money on this joke. Well it is a nice Christmas present to Amarach consulting.
    A Happy eChristmas
This brief survey of eShoppers and their Christmas spending intentions
shows how important the internet is as a channel for consumer spending.
As the benefits of online shopping become more apparent to consumers,
we can expect that in time, the eChristmas effect will begin to contribute to
an even greater share of the season’s spending total.

The figures hailed in the "survey" have to be seen in context with figures of other countries to see how dismal they are. Compare our stated 250 000 Internet users who will be shopping online for Christmas with the UK figures!
Compare the ComReg figures with those for the UK:
"Britain's 24 million internet shoppers spent £2.253 billion online during November, an average of £94 each," IMRG says, and December will prove equally rewarding for online shops agrees Deloitte, the consultants.

"The internet is gaining ground on the High Street," observes Deloitte. "More than half of UK consumers will buy online this Christmas."

On second thoughts: That stupid little survey could be used quite efficiently to point out the dire consequences of failed Internet/broadband policies and failed regulation...

So in the UK over half the Adult population will shop on line.

Of the 250,000, 57% used it for Airline tickets , more than twice the nearest category. So if you were to exclude stuff like RyanAir where there isn't an easy way to get the tickets otherwise the figures would be much worse than. Possibly as low as 1/20th the rate across the pond.

How does 250,000 compare to the number of unmetered internet connections in this country ? (no fixed cost dial up here yet)
How does 24m compare to the number of unmetered internet connections in the UK (including fixed cost dial up)
