I got a cheque from a friend today (I had leant him EUR 100 in the pub last night and he wasy paying me back)

The interesting thing is that his cheque is marked "AIB Private Banking" and is on nice gold paper, something like this http://www.tonyfahy.com/New%20gifs/BOI%20Roughs/boi_rough2019.gif

How much money would he need to have for a "private banking" account?!

A lot. Private Banking is only offered to clients of "high net worth".
