    Hi folks,

I'm looking to get either a Panasonic TH4PA50 or TH42PV500 in the new year. Can anyone recommend any good electrical retailers in Dublin? I'm currently pricing around at the moment & want to get the best price possible.

    Cheers,

    Rael

Are they near the George Pub/Dame Street end or up further?

Might take a trip in there on Friday to look at their Plasmas

Incidentally, what plasma did you get & have you had any problems regarding screen burn, retention, ghosting etc ?

Take a look at this website before buying any plasma.

    www.plasmatvbuyingguide.com.

Lots of good info. Re your queries on burn in , ghosting etc.

Panasonic get some very good reviews in general so I don't think you'll go far wrong in buying one of theirs.

    i got the 50" PV500, its the hi-def tv.

the shop is down the dame street end, bout 100 yards back up from dame street across from cafe bar deli.

no problems with it but i think it doesnt happen as easily on the newer sets. screen burn is when the same image is on constantly... im forever changing channels!!! if you were to watch sky news all day then the sky logo would eventually burn in, only after a few years though.. so i think screen burn doesnt really happen, especially on a quality tv like the panasonic

that place on dame street is expensive.the best thing is get it abroad as it will be cheaper.try uk or germany.irish plasmas are well over priced.

i found them quite good value compared to most places in town. fair enough maybe not as cheap as some online places but they have different tax rates etc depending on country... also if u buy from other countries it might not have the proper tuner to work in ireland. and also you're kinda screwed if something goes wrong.. at least if the place is in ireland then its not as bad to return

    Hi Rael,

    Please, please try here first:

Don't get ripped off by an Irish retailer

Put €80 to your price and you can have it delivered to your door.

I ordered my Hitachi PD7200 from them and everything went perfect. - Delivered within a week and delivered into my sitting room by the courier

Don't be worried regarding the tuner etc. The TV's are universal and even come with irish/english plugs and english instructions. (they all come out of the same factory!!!!)When buying a plasma - think Computer monitor, near exact same connections etc.

I have had absolutely no problems, but saved myself a packet. If you need any help or background to my purchase - feel free to pm me.

God I hate to see people paying well over the odds!!

See here for Panasonic TH-42PA50E €1,700

Would recommend you go for the HD ready PV500 though if you are insistent on going for a Pany

Agree with all other comments - stay away from the bloody rip off Irish Retailers - eg Peats have the models you mentioned & are selling them for €2700 & €3700 approx. You can easily save at least €1000 on these prices by shopping online with other European retailers etc.. Belfast / Germany etc..

Here's links to some sites I've come across.

I've not used them personally (yet ;-)) but will be purchasing a 42" Plasma in the New Year (or maybe LCD if I find one good enough in quality terms). I'll probably end up ordering online if the price is so much cheaper than the 'bricks and mortar' retailers in Ireland like it is at present etc..

I would be prepared to purchase locally, even knowing the price was a little higher than online retailers, but would find it impossible to hand over in excess of €1000 of the onlilne price for the same product for no good reason etc..

Hope you get sorted & wish you all the best. Its a very good question you asked & this is an area where there will probably be lts of interest in the coming months as more people go the online route.
