What are they going to do? What can they do?
Eventually they'll start haemoragging customers and they'll "turn themselves around" like NTL in the UK (i.e. they'll pretend that they care about customers, and a lot of stupid people will take them at their word). They're so reminiscent of NTL UK it's scary.

attn:- IBB Data Protection Compliance Officer/Data Protection Commissioner

    To who it may concern,

    This is a formal complaint.

Note the below e-mail which Irish Broadband sent today which discloses
customer e-mail address (including my own) to I and other customers
    (phone numbers in some instances).

Irish Broadband have failed to comply with the Data Protection Acts 1988
and 2003 as they have made available information to those that should
    have it.

    regards

    reply:-

    Dear Aubrey,

Thank you for your email. We are taking your complaint very seriously.
We have put controls in place to ensure this will not happen again.

It was a human error that lead to your email address being visible to
other customers and we are very sorry for that.

If, as a result of the error, you receive spamming emails, please call
or email us and let us know. If you can, please include the headers of
those emails, they will help us greatly and we would much appreciate it.

    Regards,

    Catherine

Every time I hear or see the IBB ads that go "Some things don't work well without lines, but our broadband does" I always think, no it doesn't, at least not according to the people here. So I'm wondering, has anyone on IBB submitted a complaint to the ASAI? IBB are advertising something that they cannot provide, and plenty of people can prove this.

Might be worth someone's time to do this. It would at least force IBB into responding to the ASAI when they investigate it.

Yes I have and I know off at least one other who mentioned they had on the boards.

Anybody get the email *again* this morning?

I had 5 copies, all sent to an old e-mail address from MarketingTeam@
    (not Announcements@).

4 of the messages exposed my address to 30 or so colleagues where
I work, and theirs to me. The first message appears to be in breach
of the legal requirement to maintain personal data accurately, as I've
advised them to use a different address, and they have managed to do
so for billing. The other messages appear to be in breach both of the
legal requirement not to disclose without consent and of IBB's published
    privacy policy.

I've asked IBB for a copy of all personal data relating to me which they hold and for an explanation. I've also let them know I'm prepared to
pursue the matter with the ODPC.

FWIW (not much, going by usual form) I have a ticket from their
    robot.

    IBB are very quiet now..!!

Fact: They are in breach of the Data Protection Acts 1988 & 2003.

    Another week on...

Any update as to what IBB might be doing? Anybody heard anything more? They seem to be keeping quiet about this mess and hoping the issue will be forgotten about.

More ads today for the ripwave "broadband in a box" - maybe hoping for more names to add to their "distribution" list...:D :D

Looks like they're not too hot when it comes to configuring their own internal systems either. I sent an sales enquiry to one of their generic email addresses; it got bounced and provided me with the direct email addresses of some of their staff:
    postmaster@irishbroadband.ie
    to me
More options 12/30/05 (6 days ago)
This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.

Unable to deliver message to the following recipients, because the message was forwarded more than the maximum allowed times. This could indicate a mail loop.

          xxxx.xxxx@irishbroadband.ie
          xxxx.xxxx@irishbroadband.ie

If it's this easy to get their employee email addresses, one wonders how well secured are their customers' email addresses (and other data).
