Just bought and installed a new surround sound DVD player system a cheapy bought in the North € 100 . All works well and the pic and sound is great .
The problem is the Sub woofer is powered and drives all the speakers based on an input from the the player and as a result there does not appear to be a sound signal through the scart lead and making it impossible to watch a dvd without the surround sound system on which my wife would prefer when the kids are watching telly tubby DVDs etc , there is also an issue with available power wall sockets and it requires the removal of a lamp to power the sub woofer . Is this normal and should the player work independently of the speaker system . Any help greatly appreciated !

its not unusual for the sub to be powered separately.
youll porbably need to go to the dvd player setup menu and change the audio output to stereo instead of surround/5.1

Yeah its a case of selecting which output you want your sound through, im nearly positive that all makes of "all in one systems" have the option to output sound via scart and via the surround sound setup, wheather its either or together. (more likely on the PCM setting rather than the DD 5.1 setting)
Your sub is basically the surround amp aswell, so that needs to be plugged in at all times if you need surround sound.

Any chance of what make the system is?
