Cbr 250 ......

I've been biking for 6 years now, have a full A1 licence, and a provisional A.

Can I drive a Honda CBR 250 (RR) on my A1 licence ?

    And ...

I'm looking to get a sport style bike, along the looks of a CBR/R1 etc etc but not necessarily with the same power. Are there any sports bikes out there,, of any CC but preferably over 400 that are about a class 5 insurance ?

By the way I got a quote for a Honda Fireblade ...... €5400 .... about 1400 more than the bikes worth !

No, you'll be provisionally licenced again.

    But your NCB will count.

You'll have to do the driver theory test & get a 'Restricted A' provisional.

As far as I know there are plenty of new bikes now that come as "restricted" versions of the real ones. Bikeworld had the kawasaki zx6 restricted in there a while back. Pretty much the same price (maybe €100 extra).

This is taken from the MAG Ireland site. Does this mean that on my A1 Licence covers me to drive any of the bikes above as they are all under 33bhp ?

No, your a1 licence only covers you to drive bikes upto 125cc

yep you will need to bite the bullet & do the theory test to get the provisional a license (unless you did the theory test in the las 2 years), the the biking world is you oyster

if not & you still want a fast 125, go for either an aprillia rs125 (but be prepared to apy for a fair bit of servicing) or a honda nsr 125 (dont know much about this bike in terms of reliability) or see if you can get an old susuki rg 125

edit: ooops didnt read your first post properly, you have the provisional a than the bros 400 is a fantastic bike (i still miss mine :( )

I'd agree with madrab on this. a bros 400 is a great bike. Not as racy looking as CBR's etc but it's got clip ons like a race rep and those V twin engines sound gorgeous with a loud end can. You can usually "get away with riding an unrestricted CBR 250rr on restricted licence but it's not a good idea if you're asked to produce a restrictor cert..... :(
You can get restricted FZR and CBR250 and that's grand for the restricted licence and they do have the race rep look you're after. It's possible, and common to just de restrict the bike and keep the cert.

Yes, that would be sort of implied in the whole illegal-ness but i suppose i should have said it. Illegal and insurance are not exactly best buddies
