The PI group released an image of the disc containing game demos and videos that stores received from Microsoft to put in their Xbox 360 kiosks. According to the nfo Microsoft didn't sign the XEX for DVD-xbox only, it also boots from a DVD-/+R:

YES YOU CAN BURN THIS ISO AND PLAY IT IN YOUR XBOX-360
Microsoft left us with this blanket statement: "Xbox 360 retail kiosks have started arriving at retailers. Due to the nature of the distribution process, not all kiosks are hitting simultaneously, but are continuing to pop up in retailers across the country in the coming weeks.
The kiosks are designed for a retail environment and feature game samples, game trailers and product information."

Team Pi leaves you with this Pillow statement: "It seems Microsoft was in such a hurry to get this stuff out that they forgot to set the media protection on this disc. This leaves hackers with the posibility to hack around with this disc that load from a normal DVDR5 backup! - Team Pi also notes that the all datafiles on this disc isn't signed in any way, and will allow for extensive modification for producing exploits to further our efford to hack this box!"

Playable (hackable) games [demos] on this disc: Call of Duty 2, Hexic, Kameo, King Kong.
Also includes lots of game and accessory demos in video format. Nothing ripped, just foreign videos were downsampled to fit onto a normal DVDR5!

Basically, MS didn't sign the game correctly which would restrict the type of media it's burned onto. This might allow them to edit some files on this disk to try load some software. This may cause the signed disk to become invalid. If they manage to get some software running because of this (unlikely, it'd probably be akin to falsifying the CRC for a file, but more complicated) we might some crazy swap tricks etc. I think the data itself is unsigned but the xex's are signed. They might succeed in using full game version assets in place of demo game assets, depending on if the full game has the data signed or not.

i doubt replacing files, with full game files ill work tbh, has anyone thought maybe its not a mistake by MS? they just didnt bother signing the demos with security, it would be more hassle thn it worth for them, sure you can download demos for free on live, and run them from the hdd, you can download xex file to update emulation (buning onto a stardard dvd/cd) so tbh, i dont think this is a break through for the modding scene.

The biggest thing at the moment is being able to replace the HD-WMV files with whatever you want. So you can convert HD files to WMV-HD and watch them on the xbox. Space would be limited though. Not to mention a working flashplayer ;)

of course its a break through, shows people are looking into different aspects, and if something like this can become exploitable, who knows what can happen.

Good to see theres enthusiasm to hack the balls of the 360
