Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

All over various sites this lunchtime. He's one of 40 who applied for the gig, can you imagine the team talks.
Kerr applies for South Africa job

Sacked Kerr aims for job abroad
Former Republic of Ireland boss Brian Kerr has applied to become the next manager of South Africa.
Romanian Ted Dumitru has been in temporary charge of the 2010 World Cup hosts since the resignation of Stuart Baxter last month.

Dumitru will be in charge of the team for the African Nations Cup in February but could be replaced after that.

"Brian has applied. He is interested in the job," Kerr's agent Fintan Drury told the Irish Times.

It is understood that there have been more than 40 applicants for the South African job.

Last month, Kerr said that he didn't expect to work in a football job in Ireland again.

Kerr's contract as Republic of Ireland boss wasn't renewed in October after the team failed to qualify for next year's World Cup finals.

South Africa also failed to qualify for the finals in Germany

And if he does get it, I can see himself and McCarthy striking up a bond, Benni McCarthy that is.

i cant believe this. if kerr was to get this job it really would make or break his career. imo opinion he would be better to find a championship team and learn the club trade and work his way up.

that dublin accent will stand out in cape town!

Actually, thinking about it now, its a nice move by Kerr.

If he were to get the job, he's got 4 years to build a decent team for the World Cup in South Africa. And with them hosting the World Cup they should be looking to win it. Yes, i know there ranked #49 in the world, but still they could have a chance with the whole home support thing.

The heat of wearing his trademark dugout jacket would kill him though!

A common Dublin accent only sounds thick to the Irish so he'll be fine in Africa. Let the accent thing go. :)

Actually with SA's current track record on coaches he would have just over 12 months.

11 coaches in 13 years since being accepted back into world football.

I suppose if he did get the sack after 12-14 months it wouldn't really hurt his career as every other manager they had went the same way (it's like the Real Madrid job :p ).

In fairness, he'd probably have a better chance of qualifying for the World Cup with South Africa than the next manager for Ireland will.

South Africa are hosting the World Cup in 2010. I'd say he has a VERY good chance of qualifying! lol

Good luck to him I say. I'd love to see him show all the bedgrudgers. He didn't work out for Ireland but let's not forget what he did for all our youth teams.
