As of yesterday, my speed had been dropping as low as 16Kbps. I'm getting a lot of timeouts and horrible ping responses as well. Anyone experiencing the same problem?

getting something similar in bray. my ping is still generally good but im getting a lot more timeouts that i should be. did a speed test on irishisptest.com there yesterday and i was getting 128k down (im on 2mb). seems to vary a lot though, sometimes im getting 2mb and five minutes later its back to 128k.

I`m getting the same and I`m in the midlands, taking web pages on some sites ages to load, pings are showing intermittent losses as are tracerts to the same sites:(

Same here in Bray with Eircom BB, i.e. everything is painfully slow, especially "foreign" sites, although Irish sites (like boards.ie!) seem to be generally OK.

Yep, seeing the same in Bray. Speeds are diabolical, pings good.

Down speed 4.92Kbps  The odd thing is that the upload speed is always normal in these tests.

yeah I'm in Bray too and I came on here to see if everyone else was the same, guess its an exchange problem in and around Bray/Shankill. Has anyone rang Eircom yet? Doubt they would be in a hurry to fix the problem in this weather

    I'm in Bray:

    1.71 Mbps down
    103 Kbps up

Do those of you in Bray have a 282 or 272 number? If so, you're on the Shankill exchange. I tried ringing 'support' but was on hold for the usuall 10 mintues and hung up. Useless.

I think I'm fixed, how about you guys? Downloads seem to be fine...

  • Registered Users Posts: 21,464 ✭✭✭✭Alun

Yeah, seems to be back up to speed at the moment. Maybe someone from Eircom reads this board :)

EDIT: Oops... spoke too soon! Seems to have gone tits up again :(

Seems to be back to normal in Carlow. It was strange. Some sites would just not open, but others (including Boards) seemed to load faster than usual.

  • Registered Users Posts: 234 ✭✭Yelnahs

yes same here, someone mentioned above that only irish servers were responding quickly like this site. No interruption yet, my downloads are still flying through

yeah I`m back to normal here??

Has anyone rang eircom to find out what the story is? think they are too busy celebrating their 200k DSL customer!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 187 ✭✭morlan

Well it seems to be fixed now so there's not much point looking into it.

Just a further query to this thread:

Anyone else having problems with it now over the last day or two? On BT on the Shankill exchange (presumably, as my phone number begins with 272 - even though I'm about 2 mles outside of Bray). Suffering from serious ping spikes in games, and torrents won't go above 5Kb/s. Normal downloads seem fine for the most part, but sometimes lose connection and have to restart (the download) entirely.

Nope, no problems with BT on Shankill Exchange (272xxxx).. Not that I've observed anyway...

My speeds have been diabolical for the past few weeks.
    I'm on the shankill exchange.

I've just been told it's a contention ratio problem and that there is no fix.

    Nice.
