OK so my friends new Samsung G3 phone was dropped down the toilet by his young daughter. He spent like €300 on this only a couple of weeks ago. is there anywhere he can go to get it fixed or is there anything at home to make it work. it won't turn on or anything.

    thanks

you know the little bags of silica gel( Moisture absorbing stuff) that comes with lots of stuff at christmas .

Take the back off the phone , place between the bags of gel and place in a warm oven , NOT HOT only just warm , the heat should remov the moisture and the gel will trap it .

This worked for a friend of mine last christmas .

But the phone will eventually fail as the water corrodes the circuts on the board .

if it's insured, 'lose' it or have it 'robbed'... not to advocate fraud but I know people who have been truthful and said their phones were water damaged and got no comeback whatsoever whereas if they lost their phones they'd have had a replacement straight away

Sharkman's idea is the best.. You can leave it in the hot press for about a week wrapped in silica gel too. Don't turn the phone on for a while (minimum a couple days) while it's wet. Take the battery out (first thing you should do) and dry them separetly.. There's a couple shops that'll fix it for you, I don't think they charge much when compared to getting the phone replaced.

    In general

    - remove as quickly as possible!
    - remove battery
    - Strip phone fully (i.e. disassemble, you will need a T5 or T6 torx screwdriver)
    - Clean it with iso-propyl alcohol and a fibreglass pencil
    - Rebuild and hope for the best.

There are many water traps inside that a warm place/hairdryer etc will not reach unless the casing is open and the board exposed

I've also dropped a phone down the toilet, plus split coffee over a laptop! And both are still working :-)
