as far as i am aware of you can only download at the same speed you upload on bittorrent. This might be wrong but that is what i thought it to be

    Yea your wrong.

If you have a 2mb bb line then 220kbps is as high as you can get. If your getting lower maby its just theres not enough people sharing the file on bittorent. Lower your upload speed you might be saturating your download speed by having too high an upload speed set in the torrent program.

    You need to setup portforwarding

Yeah, other peoples upload speed and how many people you are connected to determines your download too. But port forwarding is worth checking out, just don't listen to anyone who says 6881-6889 is the best, because some trackers blacklist them.

You could have the fastest internet in the universe, like a million bajillion kbps, but you still need guys to upload a few kbps to you! :p

Try using Azureus instead of Utorrent. See if that helps at all.

Although I am guessing the speed problems you are having are due to a lack of seeds/peers.

if your using public sites try bitcomet, seems easier to connect to peers easier than ut or az for me.

I have the same problem within relativity. I get normal http speeds of about 60kb/s and about 5kb on BT.

I downloaded 4gigs using this speed. Took a week. :o

I tried portforwarding. No difference. Uploading no probs at 17kb/s though. But just can't get the DL speeds.

Not that I do P2P file sharing but Traffic Shaping with a tool like cfos speed might be the answer. Try their program (currently it's only 9€), more info is here:

i used azureus. would tell me there was a nat error every time i opened it no matter how many ports i forwarded so i started to use a program that doesn't need fiddling. i doubt its lack of seeds because it happens 99.9999999% of the time and some of the stuff im downloading is very popular. i'm going to try changing the ports now

@ dublin-texas, i want it to speed up but im not going to pay €9 for it :D :v:

on a separate topic, has anyone seen this website: http://myfilesharing.com/. they basically downloaded a load of free file sharing programs, put them on their website and charged €2.99 for them. i thought it was feckin gas. fools and their money and all that

You need to make sure to set your upload speed to about 80 or 90 % of its max. (Upload speed / 8) * 0.8.

This is the kind of speed that will ensure you are not affecting your downloading but also ensuring you give a decent enough upload.

Yes, its pretty normal. You have 11 simultaneous downloads! (Im on 1mb/128 bt and only 1 download, 1 upload).

Configure uTorrent with the following settings: http://azureus.aelitis.com/wiki/index.php/Good_settings

Also, increase the number of half open connections with http://www.lvllord.de/?lang=en&url=downloads (remember to increase it in advanced settings: net.max_halfopen - I got mine set to 30).

uTorrents faq is brilliant, so read it! So is azureus' wiki.

Then, test your speed with http://distribution.openoffice.org/p2p/ torrent. You should be getting max of your connection. If you're not, then something is misconfigured. You should also be getting "Network OK" at the bottom, if you're getting "NAT error", then make sure your port forwarding is configured right on your router.

I've been getting sh1tty torrent speeds recently on Esat, everything looks like it's fine, I have non 6881-6889 ports forwarded, all the clients I've been testing say there's no
NAT errors, but I can't seem to get connected to seeds (only peers) and my availabilty rarely goes above 1.
Even on fresh well seeded torrents according to some tracker status sites. :(
