Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back a page or two to re-sync the thread and this will then show latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

My computer freezes on the dell screen when i try to start it. It will not start at all until i press eject on the cd rom drive for some reason.

Does anybody have any ideas as to what's wrong?

Is there a CD in the CD-ROM...?

Remove all Cd,Flopy disks, etc and try booting.
Failing this: Remove any additional hardware(Printers, etc.) except keyboard,mouse,VDU..

No, no cd in the drive. At first I thought there might have been so i pressed eject then the computer began to starup as normal as soon as the drive door was open!

    What model is it?

    1. any problems with the CD-Drive / unit otherwise?

    2. Have you changed any hardware recently?

    3. Have you ever changed any hardware? (Added RAM,etc.)?

It looks like the IDE bus is having problems with ur cd rom drive, does the drive function properly after you boot into windows?

No the drive does not work after the computer is running, i just use the dvd drive and leave the cdrom drive door open

Enter the BIOS config (Tap Del key,or F1 or F2 immediately upon booting)
In there: Disable the CD-ROM ("IDE:" ... None)

Or if that doesnt work just open her up and take the two chunky cables out of the back of the cd rom drive. that would be a permanent fix.

I think i may have to end up doing that djmarkus, as a last resort anyway.

I just cant find the BIOS Config no matter where i look. It wont run by pressing F1 or F2.

Thanks anyway guys, i think i will spend another while at it.

Try pressing it a few seconds before it says starting windows. if not work then next time keep pressed to get a key stuck error to see what to press

or tell us what brand of PC it is

to bypass dos cd drivers IF they exist.
run SYSEDIT or otherwise look at autoexec.bat to see the CD driver, the line with MSCDEX /D:MSCDOO1
Press F8 when starting windows, step by step and by pass the config line with something like /D:MSCD001 on it (it may not be there however)
