Was just watching him on Parkey tonight.... Well Id wathced him on his show before, but he just got me thinking... Something he said stuck in my head "The Way We Are Feeding Our Children on Their Lunch Breaks...They're Going to be Dead Before Us" Im sooo glad thay we dont have school lunches over here... And its something that I was always a bit jealous about was English schools.. that we were always sent to school with homepacked luches (anyone else??) but after watching that Im glad I got good home made sambos... rather than having to eat deep fried sh*t everyday?? But having said thay my parents still eat deep fried and grilled foods which I hope I can work on.... Id personally love to dump my mothers deep fat fryer.. and neither of them are overweight by any means buy they live off frozen foods..

but anyway.. My point is... Lets all make a point of disposing of our deep fat fryers... (if we have one) try to eat fresh fruit and veg and do Jamies good work...

I know from experience... It feels great to pack in the fake food and just live on fruit, veg and good meat and of course water.. (even if I didnt stick to it being xmas and all that :o )

I hate to sound like Jamie here but.. There is nothing that is going to make you feel better than a good detox....

*You dont have to actually dispose of your kitchen utensils... Just hide it for a few weeks*

    /shrugs. Don't own a deep fat fryer.

I try to eat produce as close to its original state as possible. That's not easy when you work long hours though.

My personal crusade is against utter-substitute spreads and hydrogenated vegetable oil. Anything that contains palm oil from a non-sustainable source is contributing to burning down the rainforests. And hydrogenated vegetable oil is in a huge amount of goods - check out the ingredients listing on cakes, biscuits, breads - and is extremely bad for you.

I see your point but how hard is it to grab a few pieces of fruit or even a pre-prepared salad from a sandwich bar ?? May not be as tasty as a hamburger but you will feel soooo much better after it... But I suppose that depends on whats more important to you at the end of the day.. feeling good in general or just enjoying nice tasty food.. Depends on the person I suppose.. Iv often battled between the two myself :o But I know which is better at the end of the day... For me anyway

And Im sure there are foods in between but Iv always gone from one extreme to the other....

I went to school in England. You could choose to either have a school lunch or a packed lunch.

Of course the Irish mammy insisted on doing it herself.

We were always jealous of the kids who had dinners because they got to have chips five days a week. Now as an adult I'm thankful that at least as a child I had a reasonably healthy, if somewhat predictable, diet. The fact that we expect 8 year olds to choose chicken kiev and boiled rice over pizza and chips is absurd. Our packed lunches were never too enthralling, the highlight being a kitkat bar. School dinners should only include healthy options and leave the treats for outside of school...

this crusade of Jamie Oliver's is something that I really admire about him. He may have turned into an attention-seeling whore-chef recently, but what he's doing about school dinners is a great thing
