i'm in the market for a new pc but have been out of the hardware loop for a while (completly missed the PCIe coming out) i know what a good agp card is but from the little reading i've been doing about PCIe it's basically the same thing but faster. what i am looking for is suggestions on which one i should go for. as i'm building a new system from scratch i thougth i'd start by picking a graphics card first so that i can build the rest round it :D

this is going to be a gaming system so i'm looking for something that is top of the line but that will last a while too.

    thanks for any info

    ok i've found these two:

    GeForce 7800 GT OC 256MB GDDR3 VIVO €235

    or

    Excalibur ATI Radeon X1800 XL 256MB GDDR3 €230

they are at the lower end of the price stream for their versions but i think they should be ok. i'm running a Radeon 9800 at the moment. which one would you reccomend pr should i spend a little more?

Having just bought a Leadtek 7800GT for €300+ (from Overclockers.co.uk), I'd love to know where you got the about price for a 7800GT.

    i got it from overclockers.co.uk :D

sorry left the first part off, the full title is:

    BFG GeForce 7800 GT OC 256MB GDDR3 VIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-010-BG)

its the first one on the list of GeForces 7800's

the one you got i think is half way down the page

i haven't had a chance to compare the differances between the newer modal but i'm assuming that this one would at least last me a good year

    Price: £199.95 (£234.94 Including VAT at 17.5%),

Sterling im afraid, thats over 300 euro! and ther OCUK 7800GT is 205 stg inc vat, thats just about 300 euro

Notice the sterling. The one I got was £179, or in euro money €261 and when you add the 21% VAT (since you're buying it from Ireland, its charged with Irish VAT, not English VAT) which is €54, the card becomes over €315 And that doesn't include shipping (which is another €20 or so).
    GeForce 7800 GT OC 256MB GDDR3 VIVO €235

    or

    Excalibur ATI Radeon X1800 XL 256MB GDDR3 €230
Heh. I'll update your price, so that they are Euro, and not Sterling.

    GeForce 7800 GT OC 256MB GDDR3 VIVO €342 + 21% VAT = €413.82

    or

    Excalibur ATI Radeon X1800 XL 256MB GDDR3 €335 + 21% VAT = €405.35

Best of luck, tbh. Check out this thread, if you want. Its about how I spent about €1028 on a new system.
