Theres an advance pit stop on glasnevin ave. Also theres a load of dealers on the north road between finglas and the m50. They might do a service there.

Be interested in this too (I'm in Blanch myself).

Mine went through it there before Christmas but I just put it straght through and it passed. You might want to consider that if there's nothing noticably wrong that you can tell as they'll give you a report anyway that you can then get looked at if you need to before a retest.

Mines due in feb and i was talking to mechanic neighbour and he said dont get the car serviced if not needed, you can still fail after a service. As Kaiser said if nothing noticably wrong leave it, if you fail get the report and fix them bits and reapply.
    Good luck

i know there are plenty around here, but i was hoping someone with past experience of a reliable place would reply. too many cowboys about. anyone know of a good self employed mechanic?

The express lube centre at the Citroen Centre on the north Road (next to Finglas Ford) do a free check.

For petes sake. Check that all the obvious stuff is ok, lights, tyre pressure, tyre wear, seat belts working etc. (you should check this regularly anyway). Then see if you pass the test. If you don't you'll only have to visit the mechanic/garage once instead of twice. I don't get people who do a pre-check done. It doesn't make any sense. Besides when your car is serviced (you do get your car serviced?) all this stuff should be checked anyway.

If you put the car through and it fails, a re-test is 25 quid. Try getting a garage to do an NCT check for 25 euro.

Then consider if it's really worth it.

My escort cost me 750 euro as a result of an NCT pre-check, and still failed, on 2 of teh things they had "fixed" at the ford dealer before-hand.

Do the test, then fix whatever it fails on, by far the most sensible option.

I'd agree also, a pre test isn't a guarantee that the car will pass.
