Philips DVD HDD Recorder problem

i got a philips dvdr 3330h for christmas and it seems good, but a few times that i went to record something onto the hard drive and try to watch it back, it is without sound unless i jump forward a few minutes and then it plays i then can reverse back to the start and it plays but also some playbacks quit out or loop what…

what i want to know is if this is common or if the hard drive is ****ed?
should i bring it back or should i try and update the firmware?

When I looked at the 3330h, it looked like it didn't have component out/progressive scan. If thats the case, and your planning on getting an HD LCD TV within the next couple of years, you might consider bringing this back and getting something different.
