Personally, I'm with the Burnaby on this one, but I have a bias in that I used to work there.

I suppose, for other people in their 20's or thereabouts will prefer the likes of Script or the Wicklow Arms. The Arms has gotten much better since the live music and Script is way too expensive for Greystones.

I've only been to the one so far, so may wait before voting!

    The Beach House
Well, technically The Wicklow Arms or the pub in Killincarraig aren't in Greystones...

Anyways, I used to go to the Beach House a good bit but don't really go anymore, a lot of young people (<25 ) would go there.

I like the look of the Burnaby since its refurbishment. Very snazzy.

Script is an odd one, esp. their door policy. They let in my scruffy-looking 18yr old brother with no id, and yet turned back a friend (25) of mine, no id but dresses well.

The Burnaby is the best of a bad bunch.

    The Beach House
I always liked the Burnaby so that is getting my vote. I always found the staff nice in there and the bar food was good as well.
I am looking forward to seeing Script whenever we manage to get home.

    The Wicklow Arms
I'd have to say it's between Dann's and The Burnaby for me. Not mad on Script, it reminds me of a coffin :(

I'm going for the Burnaby. I agree about Script, it's a bit odd but to be fair that's based on 1 visit there

    Hi folks,

Went to Script last week for the first time, very strange pub indeed. My boyfriends jacket got robbed there so we won't be going back!

    The Wicklow Arms
    Burnaby or Danns

Danns is pokey but lively when its full, the Burnaby is comfortable but has no atmosphere (was much better before the refurb)

Script has very odd decor, and the huge TV's are really annoying.
Publicans: if there isn't a match or some other sporting event on, turn the tellys off! No-one is interested in watching MTV Cribs with the sound off!!

Beach House has to be. Burnaby is totally dead.

Script seems to be full of business types with full throated laughs in the suits. It sickened me. Curious decor though, Victorian porn and all that...

    The Beach House
I've been in Script a few times now, and it gets more sickening every time I go. It's unbelieveably over the top on the old decor side of things. I can't believe they put in chandeliers. Yuck.

    The Wicklow Arms
I liked Dann's when I was there last summer. Nice music and decor. The Beach House is nice too. What's up with the abandoned behemoth to the south of Dann's by the sea? It looks like it was a hotel w/ a chain pub in it( maybe Bennigans?). Did it go bankrupt? Kind of an eyesore eh?

    The Wicklow Arms
It's the La Touche Hotel - closed in 2004. It had a pub in the hotel (comfortable but bad beer), and a nightclub out the back (variously called L'autrex, Club Life and the Beach Club down the years). Bennigans was the pub attached to the nightclub.

The owners have a big application in to turn the place into apartments with a small hotel and bar attached but it seems to have become bogged down in legal problems. Probably only a matter of time before the place burns down (as all derelict hotels seem to do).

I heard rumours that La Touche had the planning permission turned down and are going to re open the hotel. As I said, rumours........

this is actually prety off-topic, my favourite has to be beach house or danns. The burnaby went a bit dreary after the refurbishment and script is always full of rugby types.
Wicklow arms and the other one I wouldnt consider to be in greystones, as its too far to walk home from

I heard this too from an unreliable acquaintance back around Xmas. he claimed it would be reopened by March, no sign of anything happening yet...

    The Beach House
not only is script too expensive its crap...
Was up there only 2 weeks ago and the DJ was brutal,
Played crap music, played it WAY too loud so when even shouting into my mates ear he still couldnt hear me!
The place has a lot of potential but... no!

    The Wicklow Arms
Danns is a very nice pub. Hope the marina does not destroy it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 69 ✭✭sportbilly

Allegedly The Byrnes have sold the Beach House and Danns and all the land to developers but the hand over is not until after the Marina is built and up and running. Then Beach house/Danns is to be knocked down for apartments.

So technically you could say that the marina is going to destroy Danns, but it's not the marina's fault that it is going to be knocked!

If there is a pub with good atmosphere and reasonable music (ie you can still hear the convesation!), I'll be happy. Am sick of the pubs in Dublin city!!

Luckily enough, the marina has been cancelled.

    Cancelled?

would just go to prove greystones will always be a small town with nothing to do.

    Kilincarraig Orchard
Script is not the best but it is to be welcomed as the monopoly on pub ownership in Greystones was causing complaceny. The Byrnes have been quite happy to invest little or nothing in the pubs knowing there is no choice for people.

The Burnaby is like a waiting lounge at an airport.
BeachHouse is full of kids and is quite run down.
Danns is OK when busy but quite often is very dead. And it smells.
The Arms is a souless (sp) kip.

What are everyone's thoughts on this thread now? I moved to the US a few years back but the Burno still seems crap, the LaTouche didn't reopen (LOL), the marina went ahead despite the collapse of the country, Danns remains, Script long gone (unsurprising), Beach House refurbished. Seems Mrs. Robinsons is now firmly holder of the crown.

Mrs Robinsons is grand for one or two but I wouldn't stay there all night. The Burnaby has improved slightly with some personel changes but it's still soulless. Danns wins out for me every time. Plenty of character, good clientele, great music and friendly staff. The h&h is also a great spot especially since they renovated the place. Love the beer garden out the back !!
