I have my driving test on fri and i have to fix my rear mirror.. A few weeks ago, when i was wiping the windscreen i accidentally knocked the mirror and it flew off!!!

My question is, i have no idea how to put it back on, i can't see any clips or anything, it kind of looks like it's magnetic but it won't stick or anything!!

Any idea's how to sort this out? It's a 97' Punto.

Try Superglue but be careful! (Make sure it's fresh ie buy a new tube)

Not sure about the Punto but most cars these days just have the rear view mirror stuck to the windscreen. A doublesided sticky pad should do the trick as a temperary solution, just make sure that it is positioned on the windscreen correctly so that you can see out properly.

Long term some sort of proper glue should keep it on the windscreen.

I think you can buy a pack of special glue from motor factors.

I wouldnt think a sticky pad is going to be up to the job. There's lots of vibration inside a car when its moving and the last thing you want in the middle of the test is your rear view mirror dislodging and staving in the head of the tester :D

I'd go for a good strength glue, and try to remove as much of the old glue as possible from both surfaces first.

that's what i mean, there is no old glue, i can't see how the mirror in the first place would have been kept in place...

you can use an epoxy glue (a glue that comes in two parts, whick you mix) this will be strong enough to bond the mirror back again. you need a very strong seal, superglue or sticky pads don't work.

if you walk into a motor factors shop and tell them the problem, they will give a special glue adhesive that will do the job for you. Nothing else will work. Also make sure the windows is clean and is dry when you do the job.

The Glue that you stick the mirror on with comes with a special piece of mesh that helps the adhesion.
It is a specialist product so don't try using superglue.

a motor factors will sell you double-sided sticky "pads" to fix the mirror to the window- no need for messing around with glue. These things are great *IF* you READ and follow the instructions when using them ie make sure the windscreen is clean and grease-free, make sure all the bits of old glue have been scraped off the mirror etc.

Guess who had to do it twice :D

You've got to use the mesh between the glass and the base of the mirror. Sunlight heats the base and the glass, but the expand at a different rate. If you just use superglue, you'll crack your windscreen on the first bright/hot day.

If pads will hold it, it's a better option.
