Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    first off... happy new year

i have an amilo L7300 laptop, just wondering about the best linux distro to install, i've played around with suse and fedora core in the past and various live versions but never did a full install because i was reliant on windows for college, but the laptop is second place to my mac now so it'll just be used for basic music dvd & net stuff.
    any ideas /recommendations?
    thanks in advance!

Use one one of the distro's that you have already used. I would say suse, as its the most user friendly.

Go with what you know. Go with something with a LIVE! version. Or check out what others have done. as your machine will cope with the distro's out there, and each distro will do the bare minimum you requested (provided, of course, the hardware works OK..see above.)

    Try Ubuntu www.ubuntu.com
Nice and easy to install and with its APT system really easy to update and install more apps etc.

    Hi Shane,

I have an amilo laptop and use ubuntu on it and have done since the original version. The only thing that doesn't work out of the box is your wireless card. This may have changed with the latest version as I've not got it on there yet.

i downloaded and installed ubuntu, and it works a treat. the only problem is that it wont play mp3's that i have on my external hdd and ipod? or some divx's etc, anyone got a list of good software to compliment ubuntu?
as for the wireless i only have a base amilo system, but was considering a wifi card for college etc but thats all in the future, so not too pushed,
its a brilliant os very quick and responsive compared to xp. looks good too.:)

    Hi Shane,

    See the following:

    https://wiki.ubuntu.com/RestrictedFormats?action=show&redirect=Codecs

You will probably get all the bases covered there :)

Also look at my package list: http://weird.ie/packages.list - one additon you might need to add to your /etc/sources.list is:

    deb ftp://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat/ sarge main

and also turn on universe :)
