So some religious lunatics get in to do their thing. It has no influence, unless youre a bible basher. At the end of the day, its 10 Reps and 8 Dems and no Rep is going to get himself tagged as the guy who ruined the effing crazies chance to pack the Supreme Court with their team. The biggest concern the Dems have is the abortion rights, and that is on very shaky ground to begin with(the right to privacy vs the right to life?). There is absolutely no candidate that will satisfy both the religious right and the blue state dems.

I don't believe that Roe v Wade will be reversed.

Alito has already stated that he intends to keep his personal opinions on issue separate from the rule of law, when questioned on this very issue.

The point was they got to do thier thing in a private area. Also before the talking took place they blessed all the chairs with holy oil. If it had been any other kind of religous fanatic they would be off for a holiday in Cuba about now.

Just curious now if he doesn't get in does that mean thier god has forsaken them?

Problem is his previous comments before this say the reverse.

It is never wise to judge a person based on what they do on a day and better to go over thier whole life.

    Heres the docs in question.

Yeah, I agree its a little off - but the Reps are in power and with power comes perks, like being able to align themselves more closely with a demographic that is the Reps best electoral asset. And either way, Alitos in.

Oh priests, seers and oracles have a long track record of finding Gods hand in every outcome - somehow. Im sure theyll think of something. Perhaps the Dems satanic child sacrifices cursed Alito?

Republican political analysts really don't want Roe v. Wade reversed. Popular opinion supports the right to abortion roughly 60% v 40%. If Roe v. Wade is reversed, and the issue is played out in the state and local legislatures, Republicans will lose.

But I doubt that it will be overturned. It's been precedent for far too long.

Out of curiousity, would I be correct in thinking that if Roe Vs Wade is reversed, it will mean abortion isnt a federal level right, but individual states can legislate for it lawfully?

Yeah, that was pretty much the main thrust of Roe v Wade, that most state laws restricting abortion violated the constitutional right to privacy (as formulated by Griswold v Connecticut (the condom case)). Following the decision the individual state gets no right to restrict in the first pregnancy trimester, some in the second and pretty much whatever they like in the third. A entire reversal of the Roe decision would hand that power back to the individual states, though an entire reversal is unlikely ever to happen. Of course, at that point it gets political.
