i find them to be far too strict in relation to off topic threads and the like.
if a thread goes slightly off topic a mod will lock it.
why not split the thread and throw it to a new forum?
some people will go into a thread and post something pointless just to up their post count, so my suggestion is this: should a thread stray from it's intended topic, instead of locking the thread and denying anyone the opportunity to continue with the conversation, why not create an off topic forum with post counts turned off and let people whore away to their hearts content? prune the forum every week or two so that it doesn't get jammed with crap.

Before I was banned from there I had some sort of alternative name for it, ready for inplementation when I seized control.....the magpies....something?

    Anyway, it was great.....

    Any examples of this
if a thread goes slightly off topic a mod will lock it.

Depends on the forum tbh. If its Politics then yes we will take action because its not good to have serious discussions going in multiple different directions.
why not split the thread and throw it to a new forum?

I am sure that happens sometimes, and infact it has happened on Politics as well.

some people will go into a thread and post something pointless just to up their post count, so my suggestion is this: should a thread stray from it's intended topic, instead of locking the thread and denying anyone the opportunity to continue with the conversation, why not create an off topic forum with post counts turned off and let people whore away to their hearts content? prune the forum every week or two so that it doesn't get jammed with crap.

So basically you want the mods to clean up after spammy gits. On boards you are expected to be an adult and converse like an adult. There are no stablisers, nappies or bibs here.

Also this is a discussion forum not a chat room. A chatroom is provided or you can use IRC/MSN/Yahoo Messenger if you need to fulfill that urge.

have you seen the size of this site, if everyone was to go off topic this place would be a total mess

if a thread goes slightly off topic a mod will lock it.

    that's exaggerated
some threads are locked, but you can hardly prove that all the threads on boards which go off topic are locked, that simply is not the case

why not split the thread and throw it to a new forum?

perhaps we should all give up our lives and spend our time on boards 24/7

what i'm trying to get at here is an open general discussion area in the vein of AH but not as strict on the rules. something like this: http://newsaskew.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=10

take a look at some of the older threads there.

i'm not talking about a chat room here. i find those to be mostly full of jackasses. just a general discussion area where you can pass the day if your bored.
a place where if a thread goes off topic, you don't get someone running to the mods and crying because their thread about the death penalty being legal in some places has turned into a thread about the death penalty being illegal in some places. somewhere you don't get banned for making a (non-offensive) joke about another poster. just basically a place to kill time and have a bit of a laugh and you don't get villified for bumping a thread or told that there is already a thread about the topic you're talking about (a double standard i could never understand).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,061 ✭✭✭✭Terry

she looked like she was in her 60's when she did that episode of star trek.

pffh, I thought this thread was a kind of "Woo, boards rules!!" type thing.
    now i'm severely disappointed.

    WOO BOARDS in any case.

i didn't contradict you. i merely opined that she looked like she was in her 60's 40 years ago.

you want her to walk on your back while she's wearing high heels, don't you? :)

People, people, this is getting way too far off the real issue here- Photoshopping Beruthiel's head onto Joan Collins' body, and vice versa.
