    ............. Downstream Upstream
    SNR Margin: 25.78 _____ 28. 0 dB
    Line Attenuation: 29.75_____ 19. 0 dB

SNR - Higher numbers are better than lower numbers.
Line Attenuation - Lower numbers are better than higher numbers.

Noise Margin (AKA Signal to Noise Margin or Signal to Noise Ratio)
Relative strength of the DSL signal to Noise ratio. The higher the number the better for this measurement. In some instances interleaving can help raise the noise margin to an acceptable level.

6dB or below is bad and will experience no synch or intermittent synch problems
7dB-10dB is fair but does not leave much room for variances in conditions
11dB-20dB is good with little or no synch problems* (but see note below)
    20dB-28dB is excellent
    29dB or above is outstanding

    * Note that there may be short term bursts of noise that may drop the margin, but due to the sampling time of the management utility in your modem, will not show up in the figures.

    Line Attenuation
Measure of how much the signal has degraded between the DSLAM and the modem. This is largely a function of the distance from the exchange. The lower the dB the better for this measurement.

    20dB and below is outstanding
    20dB-30dB is excellent
    30dB-40dB is very good
    40dB-50dB is good
50dB-60dB is poor and may experience connectivity issues
60dB or above is bad and will experience connectivity issues

If you want an any way decent comparison, you should state measurement practices..

How do you mean measurement practices? These are just readings taken from the modem.
    Mine are:
    Downstream Upstream
Max Allowed Speed (kbps) 2048 128
    SN Margin (dB) 31.00 13.50
    Line Attenuation (dB) 35.00 21.00
I found an interesting formula on a DSL website for calculating line length from the exchange.
Downstream attenuation / 13.18 = line length (Km)
Don't know how "official" it is but in my case it's fairly accurate.
I know there are several other factors that can affect line attenuation.

I wouldn't be sure how any of this relates to anyone else's figures, but I'm not particularly concerned either - it's completely stable and reliable. :)

They are readings taken from the BB router/modem.
    What modem have you?
If it's the Netopia wireless router click this link to access the stats page:
    http://192.168.1.254/indexTroubleshootStatRES.htm?adslRES.htm.
If it's another type just access the router config page and look for "DSL statistics".

No idea if those numbers are good, but I've been expierencing terrible lag and DC's in games, and alot of sites either load extremely slow or tend not to load the first view times until they're refreshed.

I've notice that this weekend and the previous were terrible for BB with Eircom. Especially from Friday evening to midday on Saturday. It was like dialup. Their DNS servers were not responding during that time. From about 2pm on Saturday things picked up again. Normaly for me speeds are great.

Yeah! I got the same Sh*te from Eircom about the virus. Perhaps I'm unlucky with the person I get on the phone as other people got some good help in resetting their DNS to alternative settings.
