Depending on weather but it should be middle to late March. But no point putting them down into a mud bath. Wait for a dryish enough spell. Can still sow in April but running into blight weather before crop matures
Should have a crop for sometime in early July if set in Mid March

Any idea on variety, and are you coastal or inland?

But regardless of answers, it wouldn't be now, but a dry spell in Feb may suit.

You can get a better and earlier crop by starting the seed potatoes indoors at 12-15C in good light. Allow two to three growing points per potato and start them in mid February for sowing outside around St. Patrick's day.

Thay have to be in good natural light or you'll get weak straggly growth

Are seed potatoes readily available in garden centres, or where should I go?
