What is the proxy port for the WaveLAN network? I'm trying to access it with a windows smartphone with built in wifi.

    The proxy server is:

    proxy.ucd.ie on port 8484

which redirects to one of the four or five servers:

    excalibur.ucd.ie
    revenant.ucd.ie
    posaune.ucd.ie
garfunkel.ucd.ie (this one is a bit more lax with certain restrictions).

Full list of proxies and ports:

    garfunkel.ucd.ie:8484
    garfunkel.ucd.ie:8585
    posaune.ucd.ie:8484
    posaune.ucd.ie:8585
    carrigvore.ucd.ie:8484
    carrigvore.ucd.ie:8585
    excalibur.ucd.ie:8484
    excalibur.ucd.ie:8585

if your browser or whatever supports auto script then use http://proxy.ucd.ie/proxy.pac. This will direct you to one of the above proxies at random.

i must be getting old. revenant no longer functions AFAIK - good call Irlrobins!

i take it that the dual-porting is because they've dual processor machines and squid isn't multithreaded?

I my smartphone I have to choose if it's a http proxy or something else..
Also i have to choose "connects from" and "connects to" and the choices are "the internet", "work" and other connection profiles I have in the phone.
"connects from" and "connects to" must be unique, but I tried "the internet" on both them, cos it seemed logical.. Didn't work.. A bit confused now... What do I put?

all those proxies are http proxies. what sort of smartphone is it? what version of software? you're prob better off asking this in the Phone/PDA thread to be honest.

What's a phone got to do with a public display of affection?

garfunkel used to allow access to sites on port 81, 8080 8181 etc. AFAIK it's blocked now.

I wanted to access WaveLAN with a wifi enabled smartphone :) But it's solved now... I just changed the network from being "Internet" to "Private/Work" and it worked.. :)
