    Howdy,
I was just wondering if anybody would be able to answer this.
I've recently registered a business name and have been doing
a few (2/3) little jobs (services) over the past few months.
What I was pondering is about tax, Do I have to pay it/ register
    for it?

    I just read on basis.ie;
Persons supplying taxable goods or services in the course or furtherance of business must register and account for VAT if their turnover is in excess of certain limits.

    The main annual limits are:

    * €25,500 for persons supplying services

If everything went well I'd estimate the most I'd earn a year
    would be €3/7k.

I've sort of sussed that I dont need to register/apply for
anything to do with vat from the above quote, but for
receipts. Dont you have to supply a vat no?
Also would I just charge a company the price ex vat?

    Many thanks in advance,
    Kjt

If that's all your doing, i don't think you need to register for VAT, you are correct. (Although you can if you want to.)

You don't have to give a VAT number if you're not VAT registered.

It is critically important that you not charge VAT if you are not VAT registered.

If you are doing building type work, there can be a disadvantage of not being VAT registered (registered builders get to buy materials at 21 percent VAT, but only charge out at 13.5 percent).

At that volume of business, I would avoid registering if you can.

You will have to submit a tax retrun in October thoguh presuming that the 7K a year is not your only income.

The Revenue has an excellent website. You can read up on it there.
