It's nothing new, Colleges all over the world do this, rooms are available in the summer season, i.e. when the students are gone.. It's a good way to maximise college earnings.

    Here's the UCD offering (A good €20 cheaper ;-): http://www.dublintourist.com/details/ucd_village__self_catering_.shtml

wouldnt mind booking a place out for a party :P

Indeed, I was looking for accomodation in London last year for when I was going over for a gig and I was going to stay in the University of London campus, twas dirt cheap but I had just missed out on their availablity dates by like a week.

    One thing though...
"RATE INCLUDES FULL IRISH BREAKFAST" - I assume thats in the canteen?

"Restaurant" - I assume thats the canteen also? Where else is open during the summer?

    "Non smoking" - WTF?

"In-apartment facilities include telephone, hair dryer, colour television and tea/coffee making facilities" - Telephone has no outside access unless you buy a prepaid card and where the hell do they get the hair dryer, colour television tea/coffe making facilities from? And more importantly if they are there then where do they put them all come term time? Then again the latter might just be a fancy term for "kettle" also.

    :D

What University in its right mind doesn't advertise its campus residences for the summer? What would be the point in not doing it? They're just going to be empty otherwise. Also, as far as I know, the campus res is managed by an independent private company, it would have nothing to do with von Prondzynski.

College Park apartments have televisions and hair dryers. I'd imagine you're right about the kettle

it would be interesting to know if overnight guests are allowed... I presume they're aiming it at budget travellers/backpackers so it could put a lot of people off if it was enforced.... so, if it's allowed for the general public, why isn't it allowed for students? campus residences make me tired....

Well I lived there last year and there was never anything about no-smoking.

Also we had neither a TV or a dryer? Was this in the Deluxe Apartments??

    From the dcu campus website
College Park Apartments are Campus Residences' newest development, containing sixty standard apartments, each with either four or five ensuite bedrooms (one superior room in each apartment) and a shared living/kitchen/dining area. This accommodation is fitted and furnished to a very high standard. Each bedroom room has cable connection, internet access and a study area. Telephones (incoming calls only) are located in the living area of each apartment.
There are also 145 deluxe bedrooms located in College Park Apartments All bedrooms are double rooms with ensuite facilities. Each bedroom in the deluxe accommodation has cable connection, internet access *, telephone (incoming calls only), tv, hairdryer and a study area.
The no-smoking thing is just a 'hotel-time' rule

not on a come and go as you please basis. you can't come back to your apartment with someone if you haven't booked them in and paid the €5 fee.

I strongly doubt it's allowed for summer accommodation. What hotel/hostel type accommodation have you ever seen that does?

Ah so it is the Deluxe Accomodation...

Well last time I heard when they had the foreign students were staying in the campus during the Summer they were allowed have overnight guests. The excuse they gave was that each apartment a designated fire warden person whose responsibilty it was to make sure everyone else got out. This was before their new bull**** scheme for overnight guests...

Strategically located 4 miles from the airport and 3 miles from the city centre, you will find yourself either shopping in town or boarding your plane in just 15 minutes! DCU is also minutes from the M1, M50 and Croke Park.

Hmm, it takes almost that long to walk to the bus stop...and even then you'd be lucky to get to the airport in 15mins...

And you'll probably wait 15mins for the bus into town...

Not that big a deal tbh.

Kind of a rip off though.

If your ever in DCU during the summer it does be inhabited by young Americans over doing 2 week courses etc.

Oh and LOADS AND LOADS of Spaniards. Everywhere. EVERYWHERE. Filling up buses and such. :/

Distances in dublin are _always_ based on journeys done at 3am :-)

This is nothing new, not at all. This has been going on for many years.

A few years ago when I was going to be coaching archery at the summer camp I went to see if there was any possibilty of accomodation on the dates we'd be working there. No joy, it was booked out.

CTYI have a lot of places for 6 weeks. 'Sportugalians' have other parts of res and there's many other groups like that.

DCU have had their own dedicated website for that for a few years now http://www.summeraccommodation.dcu.ie/
