I just logged into my blog and there were: 108 comments!
    all of them were spam!
all 108 comments were the same stuff you get in your junk mail folder,
ads for pharm.drugs and porn ad stuff like that...

anyone know why this happened or is it normal?

i use the spaminator plugin, only to receive 20emails a day on how it spaminated a spammer.

you can pre-mod comments aswell, but the amount of crap, to do with poker, drugs, sexpills, holidays

I'm surprised Wordpress doesn't use some sort of kaptcha system for comments.

Stops the spambots dead in their tracks.

One is available as a plugin. Captchas are a bit horrible tho.

That spaminator has been sending me dozens of Emails for the past week. I don't really use my boards blog so it looks like everyone's blogs are getting it.

I get that too. Premodding is the only way to go.

I also have enable the Spaminator plugin on my blog. The many emails are easier to deal with than just checking through the comments and less risky, I almost deleted a genuine comment when I was clearing out the spam before I enabled the plugin.

Spaminator stops them all which is quite good but sends me annoying emails...should turn them off... and premoderate!

Yeah, I had to turn off the e-mail notification - it was swamping my inbox.

Of course, you all know it's Tar.Aldarion sending all that spam. :v:

Is there a facility where you have to type the letters which are visible in a JPEG file to verify that it is not a bot spamming you?

    Pre-modding 50 comments a day is getting a bit tiresome ¬_¬

I'm blind. Can't see the option to turn off e-mail notification. Can some one point in the right direction. Thanks

    Edit:
    Found it

I'll bring this to Cloud's attention as he's the Jedi Master of such things.

I added the spaminator and it is helping with the amount of them, but some do still get through...I find it odd I guess.

Most of the existing wordpress settings just put the comments in a queue, e.g. you can add a bunch of specs to identifiy spam (user not registered, more than x number of links, specify keywords) but it all just puts the comments right back in the queue.

The best feature on that page is the "mark all as spam" button down the bottom.

Every piece of junkmail is simply a potential friend trying to love you.
