Think i'll go with this combo. The E10's seem to be appear on every top ten list out there so they must be decent.

I had the first version of the CX300's I'd have to agree. Too much bias towards bass and unremarkable otherwise. The CX300 II might be better I don't know. TBH i prefer the CX 200's though.

The cx300 IIs are a good headphone for bass. I find a lot of Seins a bit anemic when it comes to base. The 300s still suffer from this a bit but they push out a mid bass hump to make up for it. I prefer my bass to be sub-woofer-like.

I hear good things about: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Edition-Dynamic-Isolation-Earphones-Earbuds/dp/B00ATWLG8Y

But they are all imported, so beware, you may be caught for duty.

Bass is very much subjective :)

    Hey guys,

Not sure if this is the right place but I'm looking for a decent set of earphones to use with Spotify on my phone. Something with decent bass but doesn't compromise the audio quality. A built in mic would be nice too for calls etc but not essential. Budget of around €50.

    Cheers.

SoundMAGIC E10 might be up your alley!

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,845 ✭✭✭shootermacg

On paper yes. But I bought a pair of sound magic E30s and they lasted one wear! One wear! The sound went in the right phone after one wear!

If you can stretch a little further, the AKG K451 is a fantastic headphone for the money - it's got 'headphone of the year' for the last 2 years from What HIFI.

Not familiar with the S500, just looked on Amazon though and can see they are well regarded for the money too.

I really love the K451, not just saying it because of the agency! I find myself reaching for them at times even when I've much better headphones to choose from - the reaction most people have when they try them first tends to be one of huge surprise in terms of the build quality - they feel quite robust but also very light and comfortable, that coupled with the sound quality for the price makes for a very appealing headphone basically!

I picked up set to try.

Sound & build Quality is better than anything else you going to get around that price €24 so you can't lose really. €24 & 2yr warranty. Not as bassy as something like the CX300 but I think bass on the CX300 is too much and too muddy. If you want to pay more €35~60 then there's probably better earphones to consider. I wanted something cheap that doesn't stick out to far when I'm leaning my head on something or wearing a helmet, and that I'm not worried about breaking. So its perfect for that.

Theres a review here. I wouldn't disagree with it.

Head fi is for audiophiles, which is fine if your tastes lie that way. For example, the JVC HA_FXT90s: http://www.head-fi.org/products/jvc-ha-fxt90 get glowing reviews there. I have these and find them OK, but only OK. If its pop / dance / rap you like, these will sound anemic.

If have had the following seinheisser: IE8s, the cx300IIs, the 880 OCX, of the 3 the 300s are the best for base, whereas it does tend to get a little muddy, the others approximate base by adding the infamous mid-base hump (think tiny hammer hitting your skull instead of a rounded smooth bass), this IMO is no substitute for the actual bass sound. So to sum up, if you are listening to bass heavy music, I wouldn't bother buying Seins. Go for a pair of these instead:

You can thank me later. :)

You need to look at the bits that are important to you. For example in your link one person says,
...Just enough amount of bass for a non-basshead to love it. I think the bass extension is quite low, but as I don't listen to many bass-heavy songs, the strongest I could think are from Muse...

Which suggests they (JVC HA_FXT90s) are not for bass heads, which I'm guessing you are. I look for the opposite, to you. Something with less bass and more mid and high end.

A lot of modern music has boosted bass and cut mids, and is mixed that and mixed hot, all volume to the max. Which works for dance and stuff mixed for huge bass, but ruins a lot of guitar, classical stuff. Theres often no mids in it at all. Some tracks you lose half the instruments when its mixed that.

Which is why I made the point about the CX475 and CX300's they'd appeal to very different ears. If you are a bass head get the CX300's. If not get the CX475's. Etc. What people like is subjective though.

I just picked up a pair of these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/JVC-HAFX1X-Xtreme-Xplosives-Headphones/dp/B004S7Q8CA/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1383231228&sr=1-1&keywords=JVC+HA-FX1X

I'll let you know if they are as good as the reviews say they are.

Not as mental as these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Denon-AH-C300-Headphones-Microphone-Controls/dp/B008N5HU4I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1385139987&sr=8-1&keywords=denon+300

I bought these to have a base-head set of IEM, they are from the same range, but the 400s are balanced armature, whereas the 300s dynamic.

I love the 300s so much, I've never heard IEMs with so much sub-base but still have crystal-clear mids and highs.

These earphones to me, are worth full price, so my jaw hit the floor when I saw how much they are selling for on amazon.

They are huge. Not so much from the side, but they stick out about an inch from each ear. Still the best bass-head phones known to man.

  • Subscribers Posts: 8,322 ✭✭✭Scubadevils

That's quite a bargain, very tempting!

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,845 ✭✭✭shootermacg

These look an absolute steal!! 2 pairs for 40 euros?? WtF!!
I have 2 high-end pairs of Denon IEMs and I'm still going to be picking up these puppys, it'd be a sin not to. Rave reviews on Head Fi too.

If you look through a few reviews some are so so and some are raving.

I can't buy any more earphones....

Haha I know how you feel, I already pulled the trigger this week on a set of Denon ah-c400s, I regret nothing, they are simply superb at my listening volumes.
I got a scare when I looked in my drawer at home, must be at least 10 pairs of IEMs, I even bought another set of Koss porta pros, just because they were black. These will definitely be my last purchase until I see a good set of hybrids going cheap!
