    Hi all,

I've been having problems with my digiweb dsl connection.

I did get like 300% boost on my upload today but the problem is the ping times have also taken on this 300% (or more) increase.

    My first hop:
    150ms ip-83-147-130-254.dsl.digiweb.ie

This is my starting hop to anywhere, cs source servers, google, boards.ie etc.

Below is a tracert to www.boards.ie (i ran a pathping as well but the output is a bit messy)
    1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.1.1
    2 149 ms 157 ms 150 ms ip-83-147-130-254.dsl.digiweb.ie [83.147.130.254]
    3 153 ms * 145 ms gi-0-2-45.dub-deg-br1.net.digiweb.ie [83.147.163.38]
    4 145 ms 145 ms 145 ms panama-inex.hosting365.ie [193.242.111.87]
    5 148 ms 150 ms 149 ms corerouter1.hosting365.ie [82.195.128.7]
    6 132 ms 115 ms 117 ms statler.boards.ie [82.195.136.251]
I'm not sure what exchange i'm on - i'm between clontarf and dublin.

Anyone else experiencing similar problems? No point having a sweet upload speed if the latencies to servers are back to 56k speeds. :(

    Regards,
    Kiazoe

yes, i'm on the DSL2 package, line upgraded last night, was working fine and full speed up until approx 7pm tonight, download speeds vary greatly. downloads from heanet and various other sites can settle around 40KBs, up to 320KB, but usually just jumps all over the place.

pings to baords were in the high 20's all afternoon, now they're everywhere and anywhere:

I keep on getting disconnected all the time as my line is dropping non-stop I think it's to do with my main phone socket wiring.......it's a TOTAL mess I dont even know the proper wiring :(

Ive been in a total mess too, on eircom homeplus got upgraded this morning with lovely full connection for 3072/384k and silky low pings of 18ms to english servers then bam, at 2pm dial up speeds and pings near 1000ms all day tilll about half an hour ago, net unuseable all day long after 3 years of not a problem, i wonder what tomorrow brings

had decent pings this morning again but it's back to 150ms to first hop again  if i wanted a crap latency i would have went for wireless

yep, me too, it was fine up until about an hour or 2 ago, now everything's gone crazy again...

    ping to boards 70-150ms, d/l speed 300Kbps max on a 3MB line...uploads a constant 320Kb though...

I was upgraded yesterday, got an average of 180kbps on a Heanet d/l.

    Things have changed today....

Same here on Digiweb. Noticed decrease in speed and pings last night and it's the same this evening. I was getting the benefit of the upgrade to the 3meg most of yesterday but there is obviously some problem which will no doubt be sorted out soon enough.

i don't really know anything about ISPs, but could it be that digiweb's machines can't cope with the higher speeds at the moment?

the decrease in speed and bad pings only seems to happen in the evening time, yesterday morning, and early this morning, everything was fine. for me anyway, as soon as evening comes it falls apart...

Don't know about today at all as I was working all day but give Digiweb a ring tomorrow. I guess they will be swamped with calls though.

Speed and pings on my Digiweb connection were fine all day and just this evening (would say after 6) it's gone to pot with 100ms+ pings and download speed barely 512k and I'm on the 3meg (previous 2meg) package.

Tried ringing Digiweb support but gave up after 15 minutes on hold.

This happened before (pre the upgrades) and it was weeks of problems which eventually went away but no explanation from Digiweb as to possible cause.

im on eircom broadband it was fine all day now this evening since about 7pm the pings have been in the hundreds: WHY these upgrades when the network can't handle the amount of downloading that is going on. lower the caps or lower the speeds or add more bandwidth to the exchanges, I dont want to spend every evening facing unplayable gaming.

    Hey all,

I'm on a Digiweb 3Mb (upgraded from 2Mb) dsl connection and I'm gettin the same high pings. It seems to relax at some point in the wee hours of the morning. Whatever it is, the peak hours in the evening seem to take a performance hit, and its only since the upgrade. I tried goin for a few rounds tonight with 2 of my friends (in Battlefield 2) and found to my dismay that the pings were at 150ms - 200ms again (same as last night). Neither of my friends had any such problems (both are with Eircom, on 2Mb (now 3Mb) dsl), both pinging below 30ms while I was gettin a seismic 160ms to the server! One of my friends lives in Dundalk, and the other lives in Kildare... whereas I'm livin in Cornelscourt. Is this just affecting people in the greater Dublin area?

It certainly doesn't seem to be limited to Digiweb anyway (although Digiweb users have the lions share of the posts so far...)

I've done tracert's to bate the band and I'm still puttin them together. I'll post them in a bit.

Irishisptest.com is telling me I have:
    968 kb/s downstream.
    319 kb/s upstream.
    Quality of service 25%.
    Round Trip 164ms.
    Max Pause 531ms

Meanwhile, back in the BatCave, my modem says:
    3072kb/s Downstream.
    384kb/s Upstream.

    Noise margin downstream: 32 db
    Attenuation downstream: 24 db

    Noise margin upstream: 15 db
    Attenuation upstream: 11 db

I'm just waiting for an email telling me that the sky is going to fall on our heads...

I got so fecked off that I decided to go to the trouble of making a boards account just to moan about it (big step for a long time lurker!). :D

    All in all... W T F?

    - PJ

Not much of a trend, although the pings do seem to get slightly better after midnight.

The change at 1am was quite sudden. There was a few spikes, but overall the pings started to get lower and lower with each tracert thereafter.

I'm not going to draw any conclusions because I'll only draw the wrong ones, and I'm not much of an artist anyway.

For the record, irishisptest.com is now giving me the following:
    2.63Mb/s Downstream.
    323kb/s Upstream.
    Quality of Service: 98%.
    Round Trip Time: 35ms.
    Max Pause: 32ms.

ive always seem to have higher than average ping with digiweb but this is getting out of hand since the "upgrade" my ping to google is around 250 to 400 in games like battlefield 2 its over 300 for a english server and considering im now on a 3 mbit 384 bit connection im getting a little anoyed
ive noticed that im on diffrent exchange than other people in the sligo area with esat bt and eircom
( if anyone lives in the sligo area and are with digiweb and are having these same problems try the smart telecom line test it will show what exchange your on http://www.smarttelecom.ie/ and post here )
ive also got the feeling most download junkies use digiweb and with the speed boost their milking the connection i remember the last upgrade thats what happened
if digiweb dont sort this soon ill switch providers

phoned digiweb - they (the one person they have for tech support - i'm guessing this based on the amount of time i was no.1 in the waiting list) know there's a problem, but they're (he's) not sure what it is.

Seems to be like a technical support front end customer service type department where they don't know what the actual techs are doing.

Given no estimated date of when this will be fixed, as they don't know.
But apparently it won't be permanent...really useful information. honest.

Guess it's likely to be another night of high pings and no online games for me...guess it's more time to work on counterstrike clan website :)

i know that's what i got it for anyway :v:

unfortuantely i've neither the time or speeds at the moment to be milking it.

shall be phoning/emailing them tomorrow anyway if i get a chance, although i'd say they're well aware of the problem anyway. doesn't seem to be the exchange so not much my whinging will do...
