    I think it's a misconfiguration. Call Eircom.

A problem with the coniguration of my router? How could that have happened? I'm sure I was getting the proper speeds a couple of days ago.

Sponge Bob- the DSL modem is the only thing plugged into the main phone line. Don't have a telephone handset of any kind or a Digibox

Just got someone at home to ping www.jolt.co.uk 50 times...

min of 22, max of 24ms

Got her to do a download test from the irishspeedtest site and got 323 up and 2.2 meg down. I'm happy with that.

It'll be interesting to see how it'll be tonight.

No, misconfiguration at Eircom's end. It happens every so often that they set people up with the wrong speed. The fact that you get such even numbers suggest that, eg multiples of 256. Your router doesn't have any speed configured in it. It connects with the highest speed that Eircom or your line permits.

Just off the phone to Eircom. They don't seem any wiser as to why the maximum speed indicated when I logon to my router is 512kbps down 256kbps up when in actual fact it should be reading with this "upgrade" 2MB down 256up. Anyway, it doesn't seem to be as simple as them throwing a switch on my account to get it back up into the realms of proper broadband! I told them I'd be happy getting my 1MB speeds back. My issue has been escalated so fingers crossed I hear something back. Otherwise the router is going to be turned into a petrol bomb. Plan is to lob it into the nearest exchange.

Given that my SNR is a bit high and I'm on a Molten Core raid in WoW right now I reckon I'm happy enough.

I'm on the Longford exchange and had the Starter package before the upgrade. Before, i used to get d/l of 110kb/s wired and 50kb/s wireless (neotopia). I now get 215kb/s (roughly) d/l wired and 90 to 100kb/s wireless.

Have to say, i am happy enough with the upgrade, but i would be raging if i were some of ye.

You're happy with those speeds? But thats only a little bit better than ISDN? I signed up for 1MB Home Starter and was getting close to that speed before the upgrade. Since the upgrade I'm only getting 408kbps down. My down speed has halved, while my up speed has doubled. Its arsed and Eircom still haven't come back to me.

this may have something to do with it, i've seen about 3 eircom vans up by the southern cross at the dell end of the road.

my connection has gone bad aswell but my speeds are alright but ping is unbearable (150ms on game servers)
