Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

At least out of pot4 we're probably the team everyone will want to avoid.

I don't care if get a tough draw. If we've proved anything in the past its that our qualifications are more to with what we bring to the table rather than the quality (or lack thereof) of our opposition.

I thought this was going to be one of those ***may contain score inside*** threads, and someone was getting really ahead of themselves.

i can't see the swiz in any pot. is there a reason for this?

i can't see the swiz in any pot. is there a reason for this?

They were kicked out of the tournament on the request of the FAI. Austria for the same reason too coincidentally enough.

lol :D - i cant wait for the draw, skysports news have their coverage starting at 10:30 in the morning, does anybody know what time it actually gets under way at? and possibly the best place to actually see the draw? - skysports coverage of the world cup group draw was horrible!!

id love to see us get as many of the home nations as possible, there is the possibility of some really horrible groups for us

No ya don't. If the Swiss were kicked out we'd probably be obliged to stand in and host their fixtures.

Ah I can see it now Croke Park (+ floodlights), the Lansdowne Road building site,
Whitehall and the National Acquaitic Centre could be our four venues.

Give me a group of death before an easy group any day. :)

The draw starts at 11.15 and apparantly goes for 15 minutes.

According to the dubious FIFA rankings, the following are the worst- and best-case scenarios for Ireland.

    Worst-case
    Czech Republic
    Spain
    Denmark
    Ireland
    Finland
    Belarus
    Azerbaijan

    Best-case
    Greece
    Romania
    Serbia & Montenegro
    Ireland
    Lithuania
    Armenia
    San Marino

We're going to get a tough group one way or another:(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,689 ✭✭✭shepthedog

Either way it looks like its gonna be a tough draw but at least could get to see some very entertaining football with some top quality teams..

Wouldnt fancy the Serbs, they were unreal in WC qualification.
I dont think Greece would be too bad a draw out of all teams in Pot 1.

    Group of Death:
    Netherlands
    Italy
    Serbia and Montenegro
    Republic of Ireland
    Finland
    Georgia
    Azerbaijan

    Group of Easy (relatively speaking):
    Greece
    Romania
    Slovakia
    Republic of Ireland
    Lithuania
Cyprus (despite the trouble they gave us last time out)
    San Marino

Got to say, I actually hope we get the Group of Death. At least they should be pumped up to perform against the likes of Holland, Italy and Serbia.

Isn't a best or worst group but here's the group I want.

    England
    Italy
    Denmark
    Republic of Ireland
    Wales
    Northern Ireland
    Malta

Actually possibly is a 'worst group' but I still hope we get it :)

We'd most probably be beaten by everyone bar Malta.

This would be my preferred group...

UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifying round draw

    England
    Croatia
    Slovakia
    Republic of Ireland
    Wales
    Northern Ireland
    San Marino

    Ah c'mon thats not fair!

Malta would definetly give us a run for our money too.

    I'd take:

    Greece
    Poland
    Norway
    Ireland
    Finland
    Norn Iron
    Malta

I think the we're better off getting the better quality lower ranked seeds and the middle road of the better teams - mainly because we raise our game against good sides and do crap against lower teams (ie. swiss).

    Not long now.
Got a funny feeling we're gonna get the English, which would be brilliant.
Going to see the match in the new Wembly, and then see the home match in Croker.... magic.
Just hope we get handy locations for away matches that'll give the fans a great trip away too :D

BTW to anyone who might be near a TV coverage starts on Setanta at 1045am. Draw at 1115am iirc

Is there anywhere online to watch it?

Not sure I'd like to get England. England under a competent manager may be an entirely different prospect to England under SGE.

That said, I've been saying that since 1994.

The irony of getting England in the year we're playing in Croker would be hilarious. You'd have to be a bit worried about attracting the Facist Hooligan element, but I think we and the FA could manage it this time.

I'd like to avoid Netherlands, France, Turkey, Spain, Serbia, Russia, Denmark and Norn Iron.

According to Setanta , draw is at 1100 not 1115.

Ever since the Croker issue raised it's head a couple of years back I've been convinced that we'd get England in the Euro Qualifiers. Still think we will. It'd be some match if we do. A total Tout Heaven.

It's probably gonna be very busy in a few minutes though.

    I predict England too.
