a lot of relevant information is usually in the marketplace before such anouncements (due to insiders other companies in the same industry etc) so once the numbers arent too far either side of brokers forecasts then they may not move significantly at all and not enough to make much proft over one day

the old cliche of stocks is that they tend to 'rise on the rumour, fall on the fact'. Any good news is probably already priced into the stock.

You really can't predict a day-by-day price direction, unless you have some serious info that others in the market don't...
