    There isnt any.
    Proably because;
    1]The "survivalist"movement never really took off here in the eighties.Attitude was we are neutral andthe Russian radiation wont affect us.Or we will all be killed so shure waths the use of learning this?

    2]It had more connatations with the "canned food and shotguns"media supplied attitude as to what it was {somwhat ]in the USA.

    3]Celebs/plebs were sent out by RTE and the media to "survive"out in the wilds with a copy of the SAS survival handbook,and their jolly times were broadcast to all and sundry on how they had to eat ,worms ,snails etc.Or how they had to kill [very inefficently]cute cuddly lambs with a rock in a sock.
    Which proably turned more people off it.

    4]There is some weird religion,belif or whatnot attached to somone who might teach it.

    Best bet is to go out and buy a couple of good books on it and find a somwhat quiet place and practise in the books yourself.
    Wish I could be more optimistic on this one for you.

    I remember hearing about a guy that runs week long bushcraft courses here, but for the life of me I can't find his site :(
    My mate gets newsletters from him so I am assuming that it's still up and running. I'll post up if I can get a hold of him today.

    No great courses in Ireland I'm afraid.

    Check out John Ryders site in the UK, I've trained with him and highly recommend him, he's the real deal, not only teaches the survival end of things but also lectures at university level on forest management etc.. And is a renowned woodworker, carving longbows etc. He was the main man in Ray Mear's business for many years, while Ray did the tv shows and books, John ran the school and took the classes...

    Best of luck

    Depending on what you want, there's a guy in west Cork, an organic farmer, who teaches living-off-the-land courses, I think. PM me and I'll give you his email.

    Do any of you go camping around the country? If so, what are the best spots to carry out some bushcraft without people getting on your back about it?

    There is actually a Dutch guy who runs a school called Wild-Live. He teaches up north though... I have been to a few of his courses, and they are excellent. His web-address is: http://www.wild-live.org.

    He apparently runs courses in Turkey and Great Britain too, and is relativly cheap compared to his GB counterparts.

    regards,

    Peter Doherty

    Your best bet in this country would be www.celtnet.org

    I'm heading up this weekend for one of their courses, and I know they have more running during the rest of the year.

    I know its a few years since this was last active but are there anymore good courses out there now? Also has anyone done the ray mears woodlore course in the uk?

    Thanks

    ya, i think one of our lot has done a course or two in woodlore. meant to be very good. but not cheap.
    there are several reputable options available to you in ireland. ipna and wild-live would definately be your best bet, depending on what skills you want to focus on.
    links are on the "links" page of the irish bushcraft club http://www.irishbushcraftclub.org/links
    but to save clickyness, here is IPNA; http://www.ipna.ie/
    and here is wild-live; http://www.wild-live.org/

    feel free to find and view the bushcraft club's thread right here on boards;

    its been just over a year now, and the club is going strong. next outing is sept 26th-27th. so you probably should join up. :D take care.
