Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back a page or two to re-sync the thread and this will then show latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Using a NEC 343i as an e-mail / web-based client. HELP!?

    Seeing a Blackberry in use in the office has recently gotten me back into the idea of keeping track of work and personal e-mails via using a mobile as a web-client.

    As Blackberry's are a bit pricey (and the only second hand one I could find was locked out of e-mail) I'm looking for alternatives such as the NEC 343i.

    But I've no idea if their any good, has anyone here got one?

    I know they're basic, but I only want it for e-mail and that does seem to be what it's geared towards being an i-mode phone etc...

    The easiest thing is to use the i-mail service, but this obviously requires you to use an i-mode e-mail address and/or forward your e-mail to that address.

    It's a basic phone alright, looks nice enough.

    I've played around with IMAP J2ME apps on various phones (not a NEC 343i though) and the result has been mixed to put it mildly. Very slow for starters, and the clients I tried either didn't work at all or were buggy.

    Really ? hhmmm....

    I know the BB I had a look at was through O2's client and it worked pretty good for the amount of mail put through it.

    Mind you it did take quite a while for a (test) mail to go from my gmail account to the BB itself. Some of the lads in the office have set up an old PC to be an Outlook based DB transfer server.

    Basically they've re-routed all comm's with their BB's to go through the sync settings on blutooth once they enter the building, via this 'server PC' I thought if I had an automated refresh set on the NEC / BB or whatever I could divert my own mail from any provider, onto out DB and through to the handset that way.

    Sounds like a long winded way of doing it, I know... :rolleyes:

    EDIT: ...but the NEC doesn't have BT... damn, back to the drawing board!

    Personally I'd go for the Samsung S500i (or the new 3G z320i that's just out!) instead as they're faster and general all round better phones.
