    Hi,
This summer school will be launched in 10 days (roughly) and will
support upto 34 local, European and International students across 34
projects in DCU and UCD (and the AIC). Applications are expected to
be internationally competitive and the pay will be €300 per week tax-free.
Applications will close in mid to late March.

This summer school is a pathway for 2nd and 3rd year students interested
in spending a summer in a collaborative research environment. Applications
are not limited to Computer Science students but to any 2nd or 3rd years
with the academic credentials and an interest any of:
    • Speech and Language Processing
    • Imaging and Visualization
    • Pervasive Computing
    • Software Engineering

The summer school includes software development, lectures, seminars,
industry visits, weekly alternating site location, social events, international
    visitors.

The primary goal of the ODCSSS is to afford exceptional undergraduate
students the opportunity to participate and contribute to exciting research
projects at leading research facilities and to inspire these students to take the
first step on a path to a research career.

If you are interested, keep an eye on this thread or let your friends know.
I will post a link here to the ODCSSS website in 10 days or so.

    Aaron

Stop spamming this board. If you want to advertise your course, buy an ad. You'd think someone with a PhD would have more intelligence.

I'm not so sure this should be regarded as Spam.

It's DCU centric, and I think would be of definite interest to any 2nd or 3rd year computer students who read this board. There's 300 quid a week on offer, which would be a handy summer number.

That's just my personal opinion. I've received one complaint that it's spam, but I think I'd hold off deleting anything unless and until I get another..

Hrm, I wouldnt consider this spam at all, it is the DCU board after all. Bar an allstudents email I don't think people would have heard of this and tbh, it isnt out to make a profit either so.

On the subject of the actual program, I do find it odd that its aimed at 3rd years despite the fact that alot of them will be on INTRA over the summer...

This isn't a "course" but I guess that you didn't bother reading beyond
the subject line. It's a scholarship with a tight window and its open to
everyone but we clearly expect 50% of the students to come from DCU and UCD.

I remember missing out on things like this as a student we have noticed
that lots of CompSci and similar students read boards so we posted it
    here.

One of the academics involved in this summer school just
got one of the first Google grants into DCU (you might have seen this
in the papers last week). This is a big deal for anyone interested
in such research at DCU and if I was an undergrad I'd be thinking "How
do I get in on that type of work"... this program, with those people
    you can.

"Course", "summer school" or whatever you want to call it, it is a product that you are advertising that you will profit from. Don't try to make me believe you're running it out of the goodness of your heart.

The fact that your original account got banned, presumably for advertising, says it all really. Also by re-registering a new account you've violated the boards.ie Terms & Conditions - perhaps YOU should read them.

Any chance that 1st year CA students would be considered?

O dear, profit ,you must not have read the link at all?
This is a scholarship program for undergrad University students.
The Universities in question are stumping up quite a bit of support,
accom, space, time, equipment etc. to help encourage students to investigate a research career earlier in their undergrad life.

It's becoming clearer that everyone who undertakes an undergrad
degree will be engaged in life long learning, be it through ongoing
courses, professional degrees or postgraduate research degrees.

Ireland made the jump to where it is today in part by having a well
educated workforce. Now it's important to build on that and get everyone
into higher learning (beyond a ugrad degree) be it ongoing, professional
    or research.

I have read the conditions, perhaps you shouldn't jump to conclusions
based on limited information. I've been in contact with the mod who
banned my first account (for cross posting) and after a discussion
    this account is fine.

    Hi,
The decision is made by a committee so if you are keen and you
think your background marks etc. would make you a good candidate then
    I would say apply.

    Hello!
I'm very interested in the ODCSSS program. I think it is a very good oportunity for my carrer and as a life experience. Unfortunately I am having some trouble filling my application. I am a little confused about the education section. I have never seen these terms used in applications.
Home InstitutionDoes it refer to where I study?Programme of StudyIs this my major?SubjectsDo I list the subjects I took alredy?Place in classI don't know what this refers toClass size previous year
Does class size refer to number of students also studying my major?

The rest of the application is fine.

    Thank you very much.

Hi, I was looking and they are running this year. I hadn't noticed the messages where 2 years old, hehe. Thank you very much. The only problem I see is that we don't meassure against each other and as classes may be taken with different teachers it is not very objective. For example I like to take my courses with good and though teachers, but some others may take the same course with a teacher that is more gentle when grading and teaching.

    Thank you very much.

    Best Regards,

    Manuel
