Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Wireless Connection?

Sorry if this has been asked before.

I just bought a wireless router and set it up on my Mum's computer and it's working grand but I can't get my laptop to connect. I searched help on my computer to find out how to do it and help said 'Open Network Connections. Right click "Wireless Network Connection"'. That is the major problem, I don't have anything saying 'Wireless Network Connection' and I was wondering how to make it 'appear' or make the icon available.

I have a Celeron Processor in my laptop and I always thought that was a wireless compatiable processor so I don't understand what is wrong. (Believe it or not, I'm a computer sales person).

Better not let teh boss see this or you won't be for much longer!!! ;)

Emmmm you need to get yourself a wireless adaptor (unless its a CENTRINO chip?) They come in either USB or PC-Card type and I'd recommend linksys as they are getting good reviews on here.
    Good Luck.

One question: How did you get a job selling computers if you know soo little?

I can't say I'm surprised by the sales angle. I've had many an experience with sales people with nothing more than a few buzz words to back up their sales patter.

You are confusing Celeron with Centrino. One being a processor and the other being a technology combining a number of Intel components including built-in wireless network card.

You will either need to connect to your wireless router with a network cable (if the PC has an RJ45 connector) or install a USB or PCI wireless card in the PC.

Setup the router to use it's DHCP server and set the SSID and wireless security and you are in business.

    Cal.

Thanks, I figured it out on my own and got it working. Well not exactly on my own. I gave it to the IT guy where I work and he was as puzzled as I am. My laptop should by rights be a wireless laptop but for some reason it isn't. I got a wireless adaptor anyway and it is working now.

Just for the record, just because I didn't know one thing (and I did know it really, as I said even the IT guy was confused) does not mean I know nothing. I have only started this job a month ago and I thus still learning. I still know what I'm talking about and if I don't I ask a more experienced person who explains to the customer while I listen and learn.

There is no rule that says I need to know absolutely everything about computers, especially since I have just started, like I said.
