Best system for accepting online payments?

I've installed OsCommerce - very impressed with the operation of this, and now I'm wondering what merchant tools system for accepting payments do I add on? But the choice is somewhat bewildering... They all seem to do the same thing. Anybody have any experience?
I'm only familiar with paypal, but they're quite expensive. It's for a new online store I'm setting up for my father...

If you will only be making a small amount of transactions initially then Paypal may be the best option.
Realex are good also.
